Is this team the worst since Pre Bertman?

I watched Jack Lamabe coached teams and they were terrible. You could go to the Box during an SEC series and pick your seat. This teams rivals those teams.

It was an 8 team tournament back then, we finished 9th. That team had a legit argument to get in the field over miss st, who they beat in a series, but miss st’s AD was head of the committee. Lsu’s rpi finished in the high 20s. This lsu team will not sniff the 20s or 30s of the rpi. This team wont finish 9th in the sec or even close to it. And themis team wont be that close to the bubble. Its worse

Smoke Laval's big sin came wholly as a result of following a living legend in Skip Bertman. And his overall record in five seasons would have been regarded as one of much success at most schools-- NCAA superregional, CWS, CWS, NCAA regional, did not make an NCAA regional with a 35-24 record (14-18 SEC). That last season was his worst as the Tiger boss and yet still is much better a season than our current trajectory seems to point to.

I keep hearing this…. But it’s a false narrative. Smoke would still be coaching at any school not named LSU. His problem was he couldn’t win in Omaha. It’s not like he tanked the program.

Let's get the semantics correct.
This team is performing more poorly than any recent team in LSU history.
But the talent on this team is probably one of the Top 10 teams since 1984 when Skip started. But they are playing greatly improved competition every weekend and even on the mid-weeks. And as one who has seen every team since 1984, this team severely lacks the clutch performer who will step up and deliver the SAC fly, or hit behind the runner, or the game winning HR when it is needed. We desperately need clutch performers when the crucial moments are presented. .
