I have a 17.0 / 17.5” neck and 34” waist.

Outside of getting shirts tailored…any off the rack brands that sell something you think won’t be a parachute?

Most brands now offer a slim-fit. Try that.

just have to look for fitted, slim fit shirts. That's what I get. They are tapered in at the waist

Is that a 34'' in jeans or in pants? How X shaped are you?

If you are very X shaped, then State & Liberty. I have a few of their shirts and they are very nice, but if you gain 5 lbs they look not nearly as good because the buttons will start pulling as they are made for people in good shape.

Mizzen and Main is a bit more forgiving

Those shirts will run you over $100 per, so if you have a go to cheaper brand then just get it tailored

I get slim fit, the closest you'll get to the tailored fit without tailoring, you may have to run through a few brands on amazon and do some returns to find the one that fits best

Some issues I have with slim fit is that sometimes the ones that are perfect fit lengthwise on arms and waist, are really tight around the chest and neck, so you may get speading in the chest button area and have issues buttoning the top button if you are going to wear a tie. Pay very close attention to size charts and to what people are saying about fit in the reviews

Calvin Klein seems to be pretty accurate to size and consistent in both skim fit dress shirts and dress pants

State and Liberty. Athletic fit - bigger neck and chest and slimmer waist. Super thin and great for hotter climates.

Every size imaginable and I feel like a very good quality at the price. Shop their (frequent) sales. I’m the opposite of Pencilneck, finding a 19” collar without the shirt being a tent to sleep 4 was a challenge.

Find a Brooks Brothers outlet and go there. Best shirts hands down. A little pricey but more than fair at the outlet and they at least “used” to last forever.

Bylt. Go to the site. The sizing can be tricky but since you’re not a refrigerator build they will be awesome. Pay attention to the sizes the models are wearing. The models are fit but if you have any shoulder volume, size up from the models.

I was going to say Nordstrom Rack has either slim fit or modern fit (can’t remember what they call it) that might fit the bill for you.
