How does a record breaking offense deteriorate into an anemic offense so quickly with basically the same personnel in place?

Is it as simple as they've being diagnosed by the rest of the league?

No Reggie. No Pierre. Makes things easier for opposing D.

After winning a SB, you are a marked team. Every team we play has had us circled on their schedule since before the season started. We get their A game every week.

exactly...

we will be more than fine once we get at least one of them back.... lots of new personnel that Drew and Payton are not too comfortable with, but have to play with because of injuries.... with all the "what the hell" posts, you'd think we were 1-4 instead of 3-2.... my god people, get a grip, quick...

I don't have a clue as to why it's happening, but I don't think this is why, though I could be wrong.

Last season was our 4th year under Payton/Brees's offense and we did just fine. 4 years is a long time for teams to figure out our offense and they still hadn't.

This year, i have no idea, lol.

I completely disagree with this.

I believe that is one of those media stereotypes the masses buy into.

I don't believe for one second that teams are trying any harder or focusing any more on beating us this year than they did last year.

I just think that it's hard to be good in the NFL, and it's really hard to stay good.

I've noticed this with Colston and most of the other WR's, it looks like they are expecting these passes to land in their hands. They aren't going for these balls in the air, they are waiting for it and it is causing drops. We don't have the urgency to make plays, it looks like we are expecting big plays to just happen. Recipe for disaster IMO

Well then you're wrong...

You really don't think that a team gets a little more fired up when playing a division foe or highly respected/ranked team as opposed to say...Buffalo or Detroit(old Detroit)? You don't believe that they give a little extra effort or play with a little more intensity when playing the reigning Super Bowl champs?

If anything, I say that the Saints may have lost some of their "fire" so far this year...combine that with getting the best of each team we play and a few unlucky breaks and you have a 3-2 team. We could just as easily be 5-0 as we could be 1-4.

Reggie Bush, the Saints' multi-dimensional running back/receiver, who earns $8M a year, broke his leg ag. the Niners but fortunately, will be back in the lineup later in the season. Pierre Thomas, the other talented Saints' running back, is injured as well, and is expected back in the lineup in the future. Their replacements are an undrafted free agent and a free agent no other team wanted. I suggest you consider the remote possibility that their absence from the lineup at present might, just might, affect the Saints' offensive performance.

Said this several times yesterday. It's not as if the Saints had the no. 1 offense for one year. They've been at the top now for a while, the only difference was the addition of a reliable running game which should make it harder, not easier, to "figure out" the Saints offense.

Brees is the best at putting passes into tight spots, but at the same time the Saints typically find ways to break coverages and get people wide open (e.g., Shockey's TD catch).

I have not seen a lot of WRs create space this year. We don't have a lot of speed with our no. 1 (Colston) and 2 (Moore) receivers so they can get separation and make the throws a bit easier.

Another big issue is protection. Brees has been hit as much this year as all of last season, or at least it seems that way. He just does not look comfortable. Even the Meachem TD he was under much duress.

The O-Line is killing the offense. J Evans should start thinking about giving some money back if he is going to continue to play the way he has. the fumble by Betts can be patially attributed to him whiffing on his man. Every time the Saints get in the Red Zone, you can expect a lineman to miss a block causing a negative play.

In addition to all the things people have said, you also have to say "this is the NFL." This is partly what makes this league so much fun.

Look at Indy. They look pretty poor. 3-2. Struggle to beat KC at home. Yes, KC is much better. That plays to my point. They are much improved.

Reggie Bush, which people kept sayin was worthless, now you see the effect. SP cannot call the type shite he likes to call with Reggie in the game, and not only that defenses FEAR Bush which leaves Brees free to do his thing!

and the the OLine is blockin like shite this year!

Its been said it takes a special group of people to make a run to the Super Bowl. Maybe last years mentality has worn off as well as other teams being better prepared for us???

They have been #1 three of the last four years.

This year, sloppy play on OLine, missing reggie and PT, dropped passes by receivers.,

Fast starts fueled the defense which got the ball back on short fields and further fueled the offense. The scoring snowballs for this team once they get it going but they just have been off this season. Injuries are part of it but inopportune drops and the ball just not bouncing our way isn't helping either.

Madden curse maybe, Drew needs to rub my sons head and say a prayer. He broke the Saints curse, the Red Socks curse, the LSU curse, and the the Cubs curse kinda, (went to playoffs the year he went to game) His first Major league baseball was in Boston Red Socks in 2004, first Minor League was 2004 Baybears (southern League Champions). First college game LSU (2003) First Pro football last year, Saints preseason and Giants. (I saved him.) I swear he is a damn luck dragon. Madden curse should be no problem.
