I agree. The only thing I don't really want to see in any way is her being physical equals to male characters. She shouldn't need that with the Force as her ally.

If that's what happens.

I always hate that. It cracks me up when I see a 100 pound girl knock out some big thug with a punch.

Yeah ok, sure.

I thought about that, but the force gives you strength I imagine, but yes she can't be too physical of a character because then you're not emphasizing the right things, the things that are interesting.

But yeah, I want to see the force...not midichlorians and laser sword fights

It doesn't belong in the anti white thread or crackpot theory thread. Wait until December, this board will implode

Ok I don't care. I'm not talking about boyega

I don't want to sound like a dick but I'm not interested in the hg wells/Jules Verne sci fi debate. I don't agree, I don't care and it's a sliver of the OP

Is boyega a calrissian?

I'll let all that stuff come and go. I just think the biggest missed opportunity is we never saw anakin trained and we didn't further explore "the force" or at least in a substantive way.

the force is about things beyond the physical. It was supernatural and spiritual, it was cool. Anyone could be a Jedi. How accessible.

Not everyone can be a Jedi even taking the prequels out and their addition for a Force mechanic.
The Force is strong with specific people, passed on Paternally but being strong with the force does not make one a Jedi.

In Episode IV Luke is strong with the force not because he prayed and became spiritual but because the Force was strong with him for reason 'x'.

Training with a master gives someone the ability to hone and control the force.

Oh and the final step in Jedi training IS making their own light saber and in doing so probably means they are proficient in it.

No light saber proficiency, no Jedi.

I'm 100% convinced that in our lifetime the prequels will be redone and retconned.

Of course you have to be proficient with a light saber. It is the weapon of a Jedi, not the life of a Jedi

And I disagree entirely. The force exists. Luke works really hard and trains his mind and his body. I always got the impression some are stronger than others but the force exists all around and is mostly unknown to or ignored by people

My only frame of reference is the OT, I don't care for the prequels "contributions" or comics or books

It is unknown in the OT whether or not anyone can be a Jedi, a lot about the force is unknown which is what makes it cool and it's why when we learn about it, it's interesting

Best scenes in empire are yoda and luke

I just want them stricken from the record. So long as no direct reference is made or plot point somehow derived from or connected to events in the prequels

I'll sleep sound as a pound

The title is "the force awakens"

Seems lik that opens plenty of oppurtunity to throw out the current "rules" for being a Jedi

bullshite Fox. The entire concept of a lightsaber necessitates proficiency with the Force. The idea is without the Force, a normal being would just chop off their limbs. And Jedi were trained to such a level that all they needed to carry was their lightsabers. The scenes Revenge of the Sith with the Jedi masters charging into battle against the droids with nothing but a lightsaber were pretty awesome.

I'll agree that the Midichlorians bullshite cheapened everything. It makes sense that there are more powerful Jedi than others. For example, Yoda was a greater Jedi than Anakin because he had patience and practiced. Luke asked Yoda if the dark side was stronger, Yoda said no, but easier. Therefore Yoda was more powerful because he was more proficient. And while Vader was a very powerful Sith, he would never be as powerful as Yoda. I don't like the idea that Anakin was a powerful Jedi simply because he had more Midichlorians than anyone else. Its directly in conflict with what Yoda taught Luke. It also makes sense that some people are force sensitive, and some arent.

quote:

yes she can't be too physical of a character because then you're not emphasizing the right things, the things that are interesting.

Yoda said "Size matters not." If she is a Jedi, and learns the ways of the Force, theres no reason to think she couldn't be a great warrior.

I have to confess, I'm a EU fan and Jania Solo was one of my favorite characters from those books. She was the Sword of the Jedi and a great warrior. Luke bestowed this on her during her knighting, and its pretty cool. "I name you the Sword of the Jedi. You are like tempered steel, purposeful and razor-keen. Always you shall be in the front rank, a burning brand to your enemies, a brilliant fire to your friends. Yours is a restless life, and never shall you know peace, though you shall be blessed for the peace that you bring to others. Take comfort in the fact that, though you stand tall and alone, others take shelter in the shadow that you cast."
