It makes no sense why it isn't. People have a civic duty to go out and vote, and they have it on a work day. Really we have President's and MLK Day off, but not on Election Day? It really makes no sense.

It should be I have done 0 work. Seems like my employer would be better off not having to pay me for this.

I agree, I had classes the first half of the day (college student) and then drove back to my hometown to vote. My brothers are still in high school and they got the day off.

it should take the place of one of the other ridiculous holidays. why force an employer to pay again for someones full day off to do ten minutes of civic duty? more government control.

people who dont vote now still wont vote. they will just take the day off and bbq and get drunk with their friends

Then it's an obvious choice which nonsense holiday we do it with: President's Day. For God's sake, that's what Election Day basically is. Let us celebrate President's Day every other year, and then Election Day on the even years. Still the same number of days off, and everyone wins. It makes no sense why we don't do this.

It really should be. I also think that all students aged 18+ (senior year high school and up) should not be required to have classes on presidential election cycles nationwide. Sucks that we don't get that. Still got up way earlier than my classes and voted though.

It's still stupid not to have it off. Seriously, I can almost guarantee that for people in white collar jobs, this is going to be their least productive day on average in years. I think companies are losing money on it, so why not just revoke President's Day during Election year, which no one gives a damn about. It makes more economic sense from the employers standpoint as well.

This

Voted early this morning, came to work, and tonight I get to kick back and watch the election and not think about getting up to go to work tomorrow morning.
