Apparently from an insider:

It has been rough. Marketing leaders have been in and out all day. There was an early morning damage control meeting and a crisis PR team is up from New York. The thing that keeps being repeated is that they had no idea that this would be taken negative. People are calling and emailing and responding on social media saying that they will no longer use our products. The plan was to air something similar during the Super Bowl but that has been scrapped. Talk is now between cancelling SB ad altogether or putting out something to try to regain customers.

I’d love to see what the demographics of the marketing team who made the ad look like

They sell their products to man and make advertisements that attack masculinity.

Not smart.

Maybe they're really brilliant and are about to roll out razors for females and try to dominate that market.

Remember when everyone melted about Nike? I do and I don't think they're going away. Outrage is short lived

This is what happens when you listen to "consultants."

Not the same thing, Nike was pandering to black people. Obviously they would benefit as blacks rally around other blacks especially if they feel slighted by whites.

It's amazing that their marketing people were oblivious as to how this would be received.

Any particular reason we should believe that this was from an “insider”?

In the age of unrestrained social media outrage, I have a tough time believing that they had absolutely no idea that some subset of the internet would respond the way we’ve seen

If their marketing staff had no clue that insulting their customers would be taken negatively it’s time to clear house.

I mean, come on Gillette...there is a NFL stadium with your name on it!! That’s as masculine as it gets. Maybe they should remove their name from it.
