Chery Michelet, a spokesperson for BREC, says the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will be stocking the lake with grass-fed Asian carp fish on Dec. 12. The carp’s impact on the lake will not be visible for about six months. Michelet says the carp will eat the vegetation that causes the algae and not the actual algae itself.

BREC hopes the carp will help biologists get ahead of the game before the heat comes back in summer 2020. The carp are sterile and will not reproduce in the lake. Michelet said the cooler temperatures in Nov. and Dec. have already caused some of the algae to die off.

Highly misleading headline.

Asian carp are an invasive plague.

Triploid grass carp are a benign tool used to control pond weeds. Bout a 99% chance this is what they're actually stocking.

Some guy at BREC is panicking now and picking up the phone.

"Uh, you know those Asian Carp we ordered? Well, here's the funny thing...."

Louisiana already has enough horrible invasive species.

Water hyacinth clog our waterways. Nutria damage our levees. Pretty sure there are other species not native to here that cause problems in their environment, are a general nuisance and just make things worse.

Don’t need to import any more

We've got Asian Carp in lakes up here that jump up and knock people out of their canoes and shite. It's funny to watch, but it's really a terrible problem.

Possibly dumb question: if they’re put in an artificial lake and are sterile, what’s the problem?
