No QB controversy is the best thing that could have happened

Now Max knows it's his job and doesn't have to look over his shoulder.
He can play more relaxed and focused on the task at hand.

So Myles Brennan breaking his arm is “the best thing that could have happened”? Seriously?

Wrong. QB competitions should run through the first two weeks of camp. It helps everyone.

Competition =/= controversy

Max is the man! Get over it!

Maybe not the best thing that could have happened, but I sure would have hated to see Brennan go through getting told that Max had beat him for the starting gig after all of his hard work and patience over the years.

We had a QB competition going into 2018. Perhaps the best thing would have been if Burrow had been injured. Just following your logic.

This is something that’s ok to think and not say.

Being Max is young I agree in the sense that he needs all the practice reps he can her with the first team and now doesn’t have to split them

Competition through camp could (and likely would) have pushed BOTH to raise their levels of production. So I wouldn't say it is the "best" thing that could have happened.
Now, if it HAD to happen, then the timing is relatively ideal as it allows Johnson to take all first team reps throughout the entirety of camp. Were Brennan healthy he and Johnson likely would have split reps for the first 2-3 weeks. Now all the coaches know to plan everything around Johnson's skillset.
FTR, I'm of the opinion it was (quietly) Johnson's job to lose from the outset (I think his skillset allows the offense to be more diverse than Brennan's). So while this injury absolutely sucks for depth purposes, I think it allows the guy they thought would be the starter all along to participate fully as such without any controversy

This is one of those moments when you probably should have thought a bit more before speaking (or posting).

OP is glad Myles Brennan - potentially our starting quarterback but at the very least a fantastic option to back up Max Johnson - broke his arm and is potentially out for the season.
Think about the level of brain rot it takes to not only have that thought but also think it’s so good that you need to share it on the internet.

That’s not what he said and you know it.

Wrong. Competition is the best thing because when players are challenged they either push it to the next level or get passed up. I will agree the silver lining is that Max will get all the first team reps instead of having to split them.

There was only a "competition" in name only. Burrow was brought in to be the starter from day one. Otherwise, he NEVER would have signed with LSU.
1. After spring 2018 LSU had THREE scholarship QBs on the roster. One of whom (Brennan) had played significant snaps in 2017. There was no need to bring in additional "competition". Particularly in a landscape where multiple QBs on a team almost always leads to transfers (and ultimately did for LSU). Yet....
2. The coaching staff watched all three in the spring and thought (as evidence by their actions) "shite! None of these guys are good enough right now to execute our offense at a high level." Otherwise, they would not have even entertained the thought of brining in a grad transfer. Particularly.....
3. one with LESS significant game experience than a guy on already on your roster (Brennan). It is COMPLETE revisionist history to say everyone knew Burrow was going to be a great QB at the time LSU brought him in. Brennan was the higher rated HS prospect and at the time Burrow had played ZERO significant snaps.
4. For his part Burrow only had two years of college eligibility left. His decision to leave OSU wasn't because he hated OSU. It was because he wanted to START somewhere and wasn't going to get the chance to do so at OSU in 2018. Grad transfers, who are immediately eligible, don't leave one school to simply go "compete" for a starting job somewhere else. They want to go to a school where they can start immediately because they don't have enough time (eligibility remaining) to "wait their turn."

Idiotic short sighted take.
I would say I’d expect more but I’d be lying
