At courtyard marriott in NY. Came back to room, room was not cleaned. Called front desk. Told me that they aren’t cleaning rooms because of Covid. Anyone else experience this. Its total bs.

Covid is the excuse for everything.

Yeah, it's been the norm for over a year now. Some places will clean your room if you request it, some will only give you fresh towels and other supplies.

What a joke

That’s just plain lazy.

Covid doesn’t live on surfaces .

It's not even about Covid anymore, but lack of staff.

They aren't cleaning rooms daily now because they can't hire housekeepers, because the nation has a huge hiring crunch right now.

If you go to hotels elsewhere in the world, you will still get daily housekeeping.

I've stayed some places and you have to request a cleaning.

Breakfast offerings have gone to shite as well. $10 for powdered eggs on a paper plate at Hilton Garden Inn.

How messy are you? I prefer not to have strangers coming in my room.

Well, what are you hiding in your room? Anyone can ask a loaded question, friend. Some people like to come back to a tidy room, even if they're generally clean people. Coming back to a neatly made bed and fresh towels is part of vacationing for some folks. Personally, I don't care, but it's important to my wife.

Yep. Did a week vacation over the summer in a hotel and they didn't clean room, but with empty trash if left outside door and bring fresh towels and toiletries upon request. It's a bit ridiculous. Covid is the new excuse for zero customer service.

Most have gone to the “only if you request it model”.

Businesses were definitely quick to ditch shite they were tired of dealing with and blame it on covid. We stayed at a hotel in Park City in March and they said their ice makers were not being operated because of covid

And just because you request it doesn't mean the cleaning will happen. I did request it recently at 2 different high end hotels in 2 different cities and the room was never cleaned. Even after the covid excuse runs out I doubt that daily housekeeping will come back. Hotel room rates didn't go down but that big expense sure went down for the hotels. They are making more money and people are still booking rooms.

Marriott has been doing a variation on this for years. They offered extra points if you skipped service.
I always took advantage of it. Don’t need service after 1 day.
As far as the outrage, if there is not enough staff what is there to do? Surely you know that the whole service industry is short on staff. Many fast food places are only doing drive through because of it.
On the other hand I was at a HI express in StSimons a few weeks ago and the breakfast setup was huge. Haha!

Stayed last week at the Cambria Hotel in downtown Asheville.

My Room was completely cleaned there all four mornings without my request. (Sun-Wed.)

Masks required in the lobby.

I actually prefer it this way. What more is there to do than to hang up a towel and pull the covers over the bed?
