Loomis and Payton are stubborn

incredibly frustrating watching the current roster management. They probably knew about the mike news a few days ago and did nothing at the deadline.
Phillip Rivers is begging to come play for us through the media. It is pig-headed and stubborn not to sign him. Desean Jackson is a free agent. Go get him.
They won't play instantly, but these moves are so obvious it hurts. Again, the salary cap problem can be circumvented by signing them to two year deals and moving the bulk of their salary to next year.
Get up and sign these men Loomis!

Same two who have ignored receiver and quarterback for a few years

You are complaining about them not getting djax, and that hasnt happened yet.
You are complaining about not picking up rivers? How can anyone complain about sean’s decisions on qbs given his success?

This situation is different from the past situations. Whoever our QB is will have to be our starter for the postseason as well, not just a stopgap until drew gets healthy. That is why it is so important that we get a guy whose got the chops to play in the playoffs.
We need to get a QB (& WR)who is just dynamic enough to give our defense a breather when they need it and win us a couple games down the stretch.

The team is up shits creek with next year's cap too; so they are probably trying to avoid that. We all knew there would be a 1-3 year period where the team will have to make tough decisions because of how they handled the cap trying to get Brees 1 last ring. Unfortunately, this is one of those years and we just happen to have a stout defense.

The cap is going to look pretty nice once MT is traded or his salary is transferred down the road. Armstead won't be resigned either way. another couple million on the books to give a legitimate shot at a championship makes too much sense.

Pretty sure released players have to clear waivers…

Rivers wasn't good last time he played. I rather roll with Trevor than go spend for a washed up Rivers who hasn't played football in nearly a year.

Not disagreeing, but can you really blame them?
They just beat the Super Bowl champs with Trevor Seimian and no Brees, no Michael Thomas, no Jameis Winston and no Taysom.
They live in their own bubble and all they see is that they have a winning formula and won't sell the farm on trades or FA's.

Not really. Saints are currently sitting $56.5M over the estimated $200M cap for 2022. Even as a post 6/01 cut/trade MT's savings would only be $15.8. So, they will still need to find another $40.7M
Also, Armstead will be around for another extension. He has 3 voided years on his current contract, so without an extension he would hit us for $13M in 2022. And, because of the way it's set-up, if not extended he cannot be designated a post-6/01 move to spread it out since he won't be under contract

The amount of people who openly criticize this team but still have zero understanding of how things work amazes me

Actually what Payton and Loomis is showing is patience which is to be commended. They are keeping this team very competitive and entertaining as they work through the cap situation that will prevent them from being competitive in the coming years.
They cannot keep pushing the cap limits forever, there is a day the bill has to come due. I believe they know exactly what they are doing just by looking at the receiving corps. This is a group that is always a strength for Paytons offense and they made the choice in the offseason to go with this current group instead of build it back up.
Why go further in cap trouble chasing a new QB when the receivers are just as much a liability? It like putting a new engine in a junker with flat tires, your still not going anywhere.

Good players don't panic when there is adversity, largely because of good coaches that don't panic when there is adversity.
Fans...... well they panic when there is adversity.

all of that makes sense from a fans perspective. But realize you are a fan. I think those two have a better idea of what they are doing than you. I wouldn't be mad at either signing, but I'm also just a fan. so uh, yeah

They literally tried to get receivers. They have built a roster that defeated the defending super bowl champs with Trevor Siemian. Bashing Loomis and Payton for their ability to build a roster is beyond idiotic.

You can't force teams to trade with you. Teams know we need a receiver and the asking price was probably too high to pull the trigger on a mid-level receiver.

CSP has one of the most difficult and nuanced playbooks to learn in the NFL. Brees mentioned it took him years before he finally had a complete grasp of everything in the playbook. Rivers isn't going to pick up on all of the nuances of the offense in a couple of weeks. Not to mention, Rivers arm is as shot as Brees.

Has to clear waivers first
