One of the main draws was that it was so cheap. Not sure how things will go if their prices are now the same as everybody else

Yea there’s no way they will be able to do the same prices they had. I referenced that earlier, even if you don’t factor in the change in rent.

I hope it’s cheap, because it will fail miserably if it isn’t

The whole appeal of the place was getting steak and potatoes for 9.99-11.99

It was always crowded and noisy too. But the main appeal was price.

It doesn't have to be cheap relative to a decade ago.

It just has to be cheaper than other steak houses.

Which isn't hard considering the prices at them.

Anybody tried their pop up? One person told me it was great, another that it was so so, and another that the meat was so tough it was inedible.

According to the article the popularity of the popup was a big driver to reopening the full restaurant.

Yesterday's 9.99 is today's 24.99

That's just the reality of the situation. That's still half the prices of big steakhouses

Per what I found online, their last filet and potatoes was $16.99

That was for an 8oz filet and potatoes.

That’s like $25 now

You’re definitely right.

But in the 90’s i swear it was in the $9.99-$11.99 range for a small steak and potatoes.

If they can stick in the $25 ballpark they can be successful. Probably can’t get it to that. Anything over $30 and folks will scoff at it.

yep. The thing that was "crazy" was the price. I remember going there in 93 and the filet and potatoes was like $10. Somehow they've gotta make it significantly cheaper than competitors otherwise it won't last. The $25 range might do it

And.... the prodigious amount of alcohol that the place served. One did not just order a simple meal with iced tea, instead the charm was getting hammered either on the porch or at the bar while you waited for your table (pro-tip was to eat at the bar), then over-ordering food and more drink at the table once you laid claim to one.
Another key was the relative rapidity in which you were served after ordering. A simple menu and a tight kitchen system helped.
It was the best of times...

All I ever got there was a filet (something I basically never order at a real steakhouse). It wasn’t the most choice cut of meat in the world, but I don’t ever recall them being tough. It’s actually quite hard to find a tough filet or to make one so.

Charlie’s steakhouse to follow

Maybe without an entire parish water boil.

Quite possibly the worst steak ever cooked. You have to get hammered to enjoy it

The article said that the downfall of the original place was that the increase in beef prices destroyed their business model. I hope they don’t think that situation has gotten any better.
