Yea the mud was bad in some spots, but we all got over it pretty quickly. Saw some people walking in wearing white converse. That made me lol.

Had a great time. Ate some fantastic food. Mr. Pigglesworth was our favorite booth. Their bbq sauce was unreal. And the pork belly bites
Found a dry spot in front of the stage and set up camp. Threw all our shoes in grocery bags and rode home in socks. Great day. Will always attend Hogs.

we had a blast too
best festival in the area bar none
some highlights were the double down at PIG, the cracklins at puerco, a chocolate bacon moon pie, egg rolls/won tons and the plain ole roasted pork everywhere. I thought the best band we saw was "sweet crude"
was that a typical crowd or did the mud keep people away?

The double down was my favorite item of the day. Damn so good.
I also got like a pound of head cheese from another booth for $3.
Crowd looked about the same as last year to me, but I'm not a real Hogs veteran.

Sweet crude surprised the shite out of me. Never heard of them but enjoyed their show.
Size wise I feel like it was just as crowded as last year, maybe it just seemed that way since the crowd seemed to be more concentrated towards the front. Without the mud they would have absolutely killed it this year.

best things i had were
ribs from Porkin gently, though their sauce was meh
pork cheek empanada from Deuce Pigalow or Piggy Stardust
the hubig pie was decent from Hupig Pie
had some good ice cream from CarolinaQ
Bacon macarons from Swine Krewe, delicious
anyone have a pic of the double down? kept hearing about it but honestly didnt sound appealing

Fox Brothers BBQ was my favorite this year, but I didn't eat from that many places. I had buns with pork belly and kimchi that was good and a Viet dog that was ok.
Looking at the menus, you can tell that teams are moving away from pure BBQ in favor of more creative pork dishes. Pure BBQ teams doing traditional ribs, pulled pork, and sides don't get as much traffic IMO.

I think I have a pic of it I'll have to check
it was two pieces of pounded and fried pork loin around bacon, cheese and some onion relish...it was insanely good
my question about the crowd was because it didn't seem crowded at all, I was amazed there were no lines anywhere and none of the "herding" thing you get at FQF and similar

I don't think it was that crowded. Everyone was just gathered on the dry islands. The back portions looked like ghost towns

there generally arent long lines, its a nice, spread out festival. Hard to tell how big the crowd was, i was by the nola brewing stage and it was pretty crowded around there. But the mud itself kept people out of a lot the plot, so i can see why it seemed crowded there. I guess the numbers will tell, but to me the lines were about what they were in the past.

I had a great time. The beam started flowing around 730. I tried an estimated 50-60 items. I was in a world of pain.
Thanks to all those who participated.

One of my favorites was the Bacon Grilled Cheese Donut, don't remember which booth that was. Silence of the Hams had a all you can eat couchon de lait table that was great to fill up on. Probably an extra pig that they were going to cook Friday.
Puerco Rico cracklins were solid as well. I wanted to explore more of the smaller booths but the mud was just too bad in some areas.
The mud pit in front of the Regions Stage with Tab Benoit playing brought back Jazz Fest memories.

Les, I just checked instagram hashtags and can't find any photos from anyone of the double down. I'll post one if I find one.

anyone know how the entry fee works?
obviously we would be no factor in the competition but it looks like a great time and I could easily get sponsors from my subs and vendors
I own a construction company so booth erection would be easy also

I don't know, but if you are serious about it, we would so join the team and pitch in. We were discussing it this morning actually.

Anyone have a pic of the double decker or the pie that won porkpouri? I didn't see them.

Awesome Hogs despite the many obstacles. Friday was tough, but had a blast, put out some great product, and raised a bunch of money. Congrats to all teams.
May be time to create a separate dessert category and have porkpourri be savory.
