I've never complain, but I've see my grandfather tear into people at Five Happiness, Ruth's Chris, Windsor Court and Metairie Country Club during Thanksgiving dinners, Giovanni's and Mr. John's... always makes me uncomfortable

I went to italian place by my house and ordered an eggplant and seafood dish and it was like a crab take in a eggplant. "Was not was I was expecting". The waiter came up and she said, "how is it." I was like good but not what I expected but still good. Next thing I know I have the chef out hammering me about ,"What is so wrong with your meal. What did you actually expect!" Left a twenty dollar tip and left. Never will I go back

Huh?
You have a chef come out and bitch you out and you left a $20 tip?
How are people ever going to learn how to handle people in the restaurant business if you're handing them money when they do something wrong?
I never complain, but if a chef left his kitchen to come yell at me, I'd be livid..
I understand you might not think it was the waiter's fault, but chances are if he's been there any time at all, he knew exactly how the chef would react when he told him your reaction to the meal.

It was a small restaurant and there were a total of 3 people there at lunch. I have been cooking at restaurants along time. This guy had pictures of himself every where. His ego needs a bit of checking. Plus i felt the server was nice and surely wasn't making anyyy money.

Rarely do I ever complain at a restaurant. I mean what is the best that could come from it? Usually I know what to expect when dining out, and complaining could potentially make matters worse/ruin my night. Wouldn't want to do that.

If I'm somewhere where I usually get great service and I get a sub-par server, I may be inclined to ask for stuff in advance (extra glass of tea, or the check). I've never asked for a manager. The way I see it, is if service is bad enough to warrant manager intervention, this isn't a place I want to frequent enough to get use out of a giftcard (free dessert is useful though).

I'm usually very patient and respectful to those who handle my food, and I tip well for their effort. This seems arse backwards, because I am very impatient with other drivers on the roads. I hate them, and I have more to lose from them than any server

eta: A few years back, I regularly went to TJ Ribs (probably once a month). Back to back times I had absolutely terrible service on a Friday night. Rarely do I ever tip below 15-20%, but on this occasion I left only about 5 bucks. I was livid, and vowed to not go back for a while. I've been back a handful of times, but it always sticks in my mind that I had terrible experiences there after years of great food/service.

I've only complained at a restaurant once.

I was in DC and went to a Hooter's with some friends and ordered a hamburger. I took a bite of the hamburger and found a sunflower seed shell in it.

Hooters doesn't have anything with sunflower seeds on the menu.. so yeah, there's only one way it could have gotten there.

I called the manager over and was pretty mad.. fricking disgusting. I lost my appetite and didn't order anything else, and obviously I didn't pay for that trash.

I've only complained once and it was at the Fatted Calf down in the quarter late one night.

There were maybe two other tables occupied and after 40 minutes the waitress/waiter had not come to our table.

When I inquired about the situation to a passing waitress, she said "not my table."

One of the ladies at our table got up, left, went out on the street to the Chinese place and came back into the Fatted Calf with an egg roll and fried rice.

She finished it, and still nobody even took our drink order or even looked at our table.

I stood up.....

"Ladies and Gentleman, let us all give a loud applause to the restaurant with the best service in the French Quarter.......

Let's give a hand to the Fatted Calf."

I started clapping and some people from the other tables chimed in....

Manager shows up and asks us to leave.

Other than that I SHOULD have said something the last 3 times I went to Commanders and my food was cold.

The only time I have complained in the last five years, something good def. happened.
We were dining with another couple the week after Christmas and had made reservations for 7:00. We were not seated until 8:05.

This really pissed us off. It was not like we could just go somewhere else because every place worth a damn nearby would have long waits on a Saturday night. We had hired baby sitters and such, so it put us behind schedule.

I wrote a letter to the general manager of the restaurant explaining what had happened. He wrote back and called me also to say how sorry they were. He begged me to have my group come back to eat and drink for free so they could make it up to us.
I thought that worked out pretty good.

i really never complain at restaurants ... if the food sucks .. why complain and get comped for even more food that is still going to suck ... i just don't go back again ... i am not a picky diner at all and really don't have the sophisticated palate that most on here seem to have ... i can't really taste a massive difference between sushi A and sushi B or hamburger A and hamburger B ... outside of flemings, sully's, and ruth's .. a steak is a steak to me ...

I don't complain unless the food is inedible, if I don't like it I just don't go back.

However, if a manager comes by, I might make a suggestion if it is something that might be reasonable accomplished in the future.

This summer, took some out of state friends to Coop's in the Quarter.OIt was a Tuesday night, and they wanted "New Orleans" food, and had suggested going to Don's, but I talked them out of it. Warned them ahead of time what the place was like. Scuzzy, bearded asswipe waited on our table, and gave my friend's g/f an unbelievably hard time when she asked a few questions about the menu (chalkboard). My friend rose from the table, and threatened the dry shave his beard with the butterknife if he didn't cut the attitude and apologize. We wound up at Don's anyway.

Every once in a while I have to remind my babes at Starbucks that they've forgotten about my order.

My grandmother has cooked a red gravy and fried chicken on Sundays and red beans and rice on Mondays every week I've been alive. My whole family comes on both days and people bring dishes to add to the spread.I have had Thanksgiving two days a week for a long time.

We started going out 3 years ago because my grandmother is getting old and we want to give her a break from the hectic nature that is a dinner at her house
