Also peaches, apples, plums (especially if green) and cantaloupe as long as blood pressure can handle it

With or without is fine with me, but a watermelon caprese is delicious!

Count me in with salt on the melon.

Another favorite, especially in the summer is to halve and apple, core it, slice it fairly thin then add salt, pepper, olive oil and a bit of balsamic vinegar and refrigerate to eat when hot and sweaty after doing some yard work.

Why? It can enhance the flavor.

I love retarded down votes. Imagine down voting a post about salt enhancing flavor on the FOOD board. You people.

My dad ate more watermelons than anyone I know.

He figured that he alone had eaten 14 watermelons one summer. Never put salt on one of them.

I put chili powder or Tanjin on it. Picked it up in Mexico and that's how I like some fruit. Including mangos and apples.

I get downvoted for “preferring” here every time someone asks about a preference. I quit responding to those threads completely.

When I was a kid, we grew lots of watermelons in our garden. One summer, I worked in a Saline/Lucky watermelon field (hard arse job picking up melons and tossing them up to someone on a trailer for stacking).

We had so many that we just ate the hearts out of the best ones and gave the rest to the horses or deer. Those sweet jewels needed no salt and would not be better with it.

But the store bought melons I eat now, especially the lesser parts away from the heart, can benefit from a light sprinkle of kosher salt. It definitely gives some pop to an otherwise bland-ish bite.
