Super Mario 64 bores me to tears. I don't get the love. I am guessing most of the Super Mario 64 love is because of nostalgia and that it was the only N64 game out for a while so you had no choice but to like it.
it's essentially the first 3D game ever made, it had the added challenge of translating an established 2D world

It was challenging, the level design was great, the music was insanely good when it could've easily relied on tracks from previous games...it's one of the 5 best games ever made

I cannot wait for the Switch now that I'm playing Bravely Default... bring on the Japanese inspired games to a console again

P.S: Being able to take my console to work with me is also going to be amazing... (currently I play my 3DS way more than my ps4, because I'm always out and about these days - and the 3DS is with me)

Super Mario 64 was a revolutionary game but this isn't true. It's certainly one of the earliest 3D platformers and established a lot of principles for 3D games, especially for third person games.

ETA: I don't like Super Mario Sunshine all that much. I like what it tried to do but many of the Shines are super tedious to get. I think a lot of people who love it would feel different about it if they went back and actually played through the whole game and not just the first couple of worlds.

Essentially to mean practically or for all intents and purposes. First major 3D game with 3D environment on a console. Part of why everyone remembers it as well and why the n64 was the first Christmas item craze along with furby that year

This is an important distinction. The original System Shock and Descent predate Mario 64 by 2 years and Quake technically predates it as well. You may argue these weren't "major games" but System Shock is why we have the Bioshock series, and Quake's influence speaks for itself. Descent spawned 2 sequels (and a space sim spin-off) but its influence is admittedly less important.

I'm not arguing Super Mario 64's not an immensely important, influential game, especially for 3rd person titles. Just trying to point out an inaccuracy I see repeated often.

I'm also excited for the Switch Presentation. Anyone want to take a guess on if they'll reveal the price and what it will be? What price would be too much for you to be an early adopter?

You never know. Retro Studios' last game, Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, was released nearly 3 years ago. They've had to be working on something all this time.

I went back and played through it again a few years ago and still love it. The only worlds I don't really like are the amusement park and Noki Bay.

But, but Federation Force!

I've all but given up hope for getting a new Metroid game that captures the heart of the series like Prime or Super Metroid.

Have you tried AM2R? It's a fan project but I downloaded it recently and it's pretty awesome. I'm always really skeptical of fan projects but it feels like it could be a legit Nintendo product. It's like a mixture of Zero Mission with some small elements of Prime mixed in. I'm not quite finished with it yet but it's scratched the 2D Metroid itch.

Really? Crazy. To me, it is easily the best Mario game. Love it start-to-finish. Such a unique ide.

If I bet on one wild piece of news for today, It's Metroid Prime 4.

That or an Eternal Darkness Sequel.

I think launch day Zelda is in the bag. I think we get one of Splatoon or Kart on launch as a pack in/launch title. I think New 3D Mario and Smash, with the other of Splatoon/Kart in launch window.

I also think they blaze out of the Wii BC gate with both Galaxies in play.

I also really hope for an Animal Crossing sequel getting announced for 2017. Or just go straight for Harvest Moon.

If they are under an NDA, they can't say yes.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if this is true.

I used it to mean "ostensibly"

it was a console true 3d game, most people never played a 3d game like that, and it looked so much better than any game made before it.
