I cannot find my posts from the last year, sorry.
My last trip to Houston was canceled due to Hurricane Ian. TB Rays are playing at Minute Maid last weekend in July, so we are coming back!

Trying to decide if we bring our clubs or not. Would probably only get to play Saturday morning if we try. I play to an 8-9. Jack is 18-20ish.
What it is the prevailing recommendation for that one course to play? Yes, it will be quite warm, but we are used to that.
I know two of the pros at The Woodlands, is that worth it?

ALSO ... and equally important ... what BBQ places should we look into?

- Pinkerton's Barbecue
- The Pit Room
- Truth BBQ
- Goode Company BBQ

???

My Ranking -

1.Truth
2. Pinkerton
3. Pit Room

Forget Goode BBQ, Now Goode Seafood is awesome.

If you don't want to go drive so far, then do Gus Wortham or Wildcat for golf.

Within reason, I don't mind driving if it is worth it.
Haven't been to Houston since 2006. Everything is a drive in Houston.
Woodlands yay or nay?

Haven't played the Woodlands since before covid, so I give you up to date info.

Now, if you buddy up there let's you play for free, that's a different story.

Wildcat and gus are pretty close to downtown. Think like 15 minutes. The woodlands is going to take just shy of an hour door to door.

i haven't played the woodlands but i am going to assume its a better course than those two.

Bluejack will be closed that weekend. Start their summer shutdown this weekend I believe.

Play the Woodlands Tournament course or Players course if you have buddies there.

Wildcat Highlands is fun to play and you can see the NRG Football Stadium from some of the holes. Gus Worthem is a city run course. Look into Highland Pines just south of the woodlands it’s fantastic. Also if you a have a full day to waste drive down to Lake Jackson and play The Wilderness it’s also fantastic and you’re only about 12 miles to surfside beach. You can grab a post round meal and check out the beach.
For BBQ don’t waste time on Goode Co. I’d go Truth and then The Pit Room.

You may have not meant this as a dig, but some people may take it that way. Gus is a great course that is minutes from downtown. I wish I lived closer so that I could play it more. Also, out of towners can get on the course for a reasonable rate, unlike Memorial.

Don't forget Roegels BBQ on Voss too, it is very good.

It amazing what good bbq costs these days. I remember when the meat companies couldn't give away beef ribs and chicken wings.

When I owned my restaurant, my supplier would always throw in 2 boxes of wings free and I had to beg my employees to take them home. Times have changed.

Yeah, didn’t mean it to be negative. But Gus is definitely one of my favorite courses close to downtown. I play it often and it’s always in great shape. Good price point too.

This may be a negative for better golfers, but, as a 10, I love that there is always one side of the hole that you can miss a tee shot on. You can miss left on the front as you make the loop of the outside and left on the back as you circle the middle. Gus and Wildcat are also a couple of the rare courses in Houston where you may need to use slope mode on your range finder.

I’m a member at the woodlands, the player and tournament courses are both very nice but they just punched the tournament last week. The Palmer has 1 nice nine, 1 decent one and one that is worn out. The 2 resort courses aren’t worth the time.

Corkscrew bbq in spring is on the way back to Houston if you come up, it’s the best up this way

Gulf Club of Houston Tournament course would be a good and nice place to play. It’s not that far from downtown on the weekend traffic
