I think higher handicaps aren't as used to playing from the middle of the flat fairway on easy courses, so once they are in the rough or pine straw at augusta it isn't much different that the crap they hit into at their local muni. so missing fairways at Augusta won't drop a 20 handicap as much. And as for the greens, a 20 handicap is going to have quite a few 3 putts already, so add a couple of more for the increased difficulty.

At 6300 yards without a lot of forced carries I could see a bogey golfer shooting 31 over par. I think it is safe to assume the greens were watered and not cut and rolled since Sunday morning.
I think it is indeed the type of course, when playing up, an 18 handicap (and according to Watt himself, he is an 18 handicap these days) would be able to scrape it around in a hundred strokes as a low handicap golfer is more penalized by hitting approach shots to the green while the high handicapper isn't getting on in two anyway.
This an article from 7 years ago with him supposedly as a 21 handicap. And if the guy does not even know his handicap or makes one up, I'm not trusting him to know to play the ball down either.

: a mid handicapper may not lose a ball but it could take them 5-7 shots just to get the ball on the green
And that’s a high handicapper

The dumbest topic that went around was “could you win the masters if you started on the green “
I think overall Us open setups and British opens would wreck the 12 handicap golfer more than Augusta

He’s a mid handicapper at 18. High is over 20.

I went to the US open at Torrey the year Rahm won
I legit don’t think I would break 120 there from my actual fees with that setup
You actually wouldn’t have found your ball one foot off the fairway in a normal round without spotters

Member tees are about 6,200 yards. I’m sure Watt can hit it pretty far.

You’d be surprised at how many big athletes don’t deliver the club correctly. Some of the longest hitters I know a shorter guys. Hell, Rory and JT are not tall by any means.

Watts swing is AWFUL. He has so much sway in it. His hips just move backwards with really no actual turn. I would not think he hits it far

Yeah, that doesn’t look good at all.

JJ also claimed to have shot a 117 at Erin Hills the day after the US Open back in 2017. He’s probably a lot better than a 25.
ETA: he claimed to be a 21 back then
I'd put more money on his scores being bullshite

This was my thinking. The course probably plays a lot harder to good players than it does mid / high handicaps.
The beauty of Augusta is how demanding it is of approach shots and how accurate you need to be with long irons.
A high handicap is going to miss the green whether it’s Augusta or the LSU golf course.

Of course
But it was stated an 18 wouldn’t break 175 and a scratch wouldn’t break 100 on multiple channels. That was the metrics used and retweeted and talked about
I think that’s clearly just way out there
The discussion was what a 15 handicap would shoot in tournament conditions from the masters tees, and former champions were saying they probably wouldn't break a 100
Not surprising you have no idea what you’re talking about

I assume he had caddy reading the greens for him.

But I’ve heard alot of the following as well:
Craig stadler said the average golfer wouldn’t shoot 150
Tim Kurkejuan did a piece once and 175 was the number used
I can also show you the content on “would the average person win the masters if they started on the green” if you would like
