My son wants to learn to play golf - what courses should I bring him to that are not busy?

I used to play all the time when I was younger but it's been years since I've stepped on a course. I bring him to Top Golf and ranges all the time but I need to teach him how to chip and putt as well and I'm worried about bringing him to a course where we spend more time letting people play through than actually playing since he's going to slow us down a lot.
I'd like to bring him to a slow course that's not too busy and would allow just him and I to play without paring us with others. When I played in my younger years, I just went play and didn't have to worry about being paired with others, which is the way I like it. Is being paired with others a thing or would I be able to tell them we just want to play alone?
Is the small course in Hammond still open?
I feel like a beginner at this all over again since it's been so long.

I do the same thing with my stepkids. Weekends will usually be busy but try and schedule a late tee time. Most people will be wrapping up later in the day so you won't have many people behind you. Just be mindful and if you find you are playing slow, just have him pick up and hit where you hit. More about the experience that scoring in my opinion.

City Park is the answer. This is where I brought my daughters when they wanted to learn. 9 holes. Not a long course. Fun to drive the cart up and down the hills.

Fennwood in Zachary is another good answer. Cheap, not busy, and the greens are excellent.

chipping and putting Beaver is the best practice area
Webb has a practice area that is beat up but works

Damn, City Park and Webb... haven't been to those in ages. Are those still safe areas or am I going to need to constantly be on the lookout?

Try the Pines at Northpark in the Denham Area, nothing fancy and probably not too busy at most times.

They're totally fine.

We even play Clark fairly often, which is in the ghetto. Have never had a problem.

We practice and play at JS Clark in Baker by the BR Zoo a decent amount, their practice facilities are better than most other public courses. Beaver Creek, Carter Plantation and Pelican Point have great practice facilities.
JS Clark:
-Full Driving Range
-Large Putting Green
-Short Game Green with Bunker
-40 yard to 100 Yard Chipping Green (when they merged Dumas and Clark, they kept the old Clark #1 hole which was a 100 yard par 3, its great for chip practice)
As far as playing, it is good for beginners, hole #1 can be a little daunting, my kids play it from forward tees so they don't have to hit through the trees over the ravine.
Brec is about to start their spring First Tee, I would consider putting your child in this.

hole #1
That’s my favorite hole on the course. I’ve eagled it once, birdied it plenty of times. That’s saying a lot too because I’m not a good golfer.

For real though Pelican Lakes has a monthly deal that has unlimited practice facilities and you can walk the 9 hole course for free and play links course after 2pm
It was like 120/month per family

Webb only has a hitting net and City has no net or range. Clark has a solid driving range, putting green, and chipping area.

Webb has a practice putting green by 1 tee box. Webb has a practice chipping area by 10 tee box.
City has a putting green/chipping area by one tee box.
He asked about practicing short game and playing with a youngster.

See if your son has a friend that also wants to learn to play. Keeps him interested as they start a little rivalry against each other.
