What’s your opinion on the effect to the overall tour? Events like the local Zurich Classic will seem like the Korn Ferry tour imo. Was always difficult to begin with to draw a competitive field. Understand the mindset of the PGA & the elite players but believe the overall week to week and eventual long term impact to average golf fans will be negative.

My early opinion is that these are basically korn ferry events now.. just based on how it has gone so far.

This is definitely a concern, but I have to say the WMPO and Genesis were pretty fricking awesome events. So if we get 12 of these elevated events plus majors… it will be hard to complain.

I think in 2024, they will become feeder events into the designated events. No, they won't have the juice of the elevated events, but it will be good drama to have golfers grinding to get into the top 10 (or whatever that number is) in order to qualify for the next designated event. There will be other reasons to tune into them for sure.

It’s cool that these players get to choose whether or not to play this week.

Can we just chalk this up to people who don't watch these events aren't big golf fans? I'll never understand the hate for these non-elevated events and the "do something" attitude that has directly led to the creation of LIV which further dilutes the fileds for all events.

I am not sure you can expect the top guys to go balls out for 44 events a year.

I’m not sure how you’d work it with the sponsors, but they should rotate the elevated events across the events. Especially ones with long term, good paying sponsors like Zurich. How long will they invest in this if they don’t draw any stars? Last years Zurich field was great (relative to past)

I wouldn't be surprised if they are looking into that. "Hey Zurich, bear with us for a couple more years, then we'll make the Zurich designated for 3 years straight."

There is some great golf being played on the Korn Ferry and at the Honda this week.

I like watching good golf shots, don't really care who is hitting them.

In fact, there's a Korn Ferry player tearing up PGA National as I type this. Bhatia would have been a very good flyer bet this week.

Pretty sure the elevated events will rotate annually.

Last I heard is that was the intention - not sure it still is, but it certainly makes sense.

The Tour was already informally an A Tour (majors, WGCs, Players, ToC, Riv, Memorial, playoffs, etc.) and a B Tour (fall events, Sony, Pebble, Honda, Texas events, Detroit, Minneapolis, etc.) with some shared events and some cross over back and forth, but the elevated designation and purse really just formalizes and strengthens the framework of something that was already happening.

I'd be more interested to know how the changes in the schedule are affecting the pricing tiers the Tour offers to sponsors. Rocket Mortgage, as one example, invests in their brand on the Tour for very different reasons than, say, BMW or Fedex.

From the sounds of it, 2024 is going to look very different to this year, anyway, so it's a bit of wait and see.

This tourney is great! Some good new young players making a run.

I think the PGA handled the whole LiV thing as bad as possible. Remember they were approached about partnering with the LiV people for like 8 elevated events each season. Monaghan said no we are not doing it cause we want all the revenue. What they then did with the elevated events was make weeks like this very boring for the average golf fan.

Agreed 100 percent. It wasn’t Monohan, though he is awful as a commissioner. It was the PGA tour attorney that laughed at LIV.

Yep, that was a terrible Honda classic. Playoff drama. Kirk wins in OT. Cole lips out from 10+. Was 15/15 inside 20 feet up to that putt.

Boring...not boring.

The PGA has a lot of depth to it. A lot of talented young players. It's hard to win a PGA golf tournament.
