Sure. I would maybe watch LIV on a given weekend if it wasn't going up against football. I'm definitely not going against football to switch to a meaningless (in my eyes) exhibition.

However, when it was Rahm vs Rory on a Sunday a few weeks ago, with the return to world #1 at stake for Rory, I did tune in, even if only for the back 9. Because it was two great golfers playing for something meaningful, on a course that I thought was interesting.

I'm not anti LIV but it hasn't created a reason to draw eyeballs yet, IMO. And being told I must comply because of the big purses isn't gonna sway my opinion.
Agreed, I think they’d do well to adjust the schedule to not run up against football, but they obviously have to be mindful of not running up against big PGA events either to try to get as many golf fans as possible.

I know “exhibition” gets thrown around a lot as a slight to LIV but I don’t know how it’s any more of an exhibition than your typical PGA event. You think anyone cares about how many FedEx points Seamus Power is earning toward his cup run next year?

Fans tune in to see top golfers play against one another - and I don’t think most fans care about which tournament or “exhibition” that comes from. Watching Sergio and Cam coming down to the wire at Doral in match play was great golf.

Its 54 holes with no cut and all of the top players have already gotten paid for just showing up. It doesn't get much more exhibition than that.

1. This isn’t true.
2. Why should I care about that? Like, good for them, but that doesn’t make me more interested in the tourney.

They may give a couple of exemptions, but the majority would have to go through final qualifying because they'll be well outside the OWGR needed
Just wanted to point out that the major winners will have many years exempt. I don't know all of them, but Masters is 5 years for example.

The LIV event last weekend was light years better than the pgat event.

That is a fact people do not like.

I was watching football, but the highlights/clips I’ve seen from it make it seem like a great event. Would have been interesting to watch the team format play out. From what I saw it was two 1v1 matchups & then a 2-man alternate shot match.

Any golf fan acting like they didn’t enjoy Phil being in the booth commentating with Cam Smith on the course is lying. LINK

YouTube, Phil comes on at 1:47:30

Of course it’s hard to find this clip on the internet bc all the media wants you to see is “Cam Smith blames Phil for slow play”

How was the viewership last weekend for LIV ?

Playing on YouTube against College and Pro Football has to be rough for them.

How many non-major Thursday rounds do you, or the average golf fan, watch in PGA tour events? I'm betting it's nearly zero, so I don't think most care if they cut Thursday out of it.

And LIV broadcasts, like PGA broadcasts, shows mostly the top name guys and the guys in contention. So why should it bother me if the guys at the bottom of the scoreboard are still playing?

They averaged 40k viewers and ranked 6th worst viewership out of their 8 events so far.

Calling it an exhibition is not an argument for the entertainment value; it's about the competition. Most PGA events require some sort of qualification to participate. There are 72 holes and, typically, a cut halfway through. I won't argue that this makes regular PGA events more entertaining than LIV, but that is why some feel these are more akin to exhibitions. Golfers don't need to qualify, don't need to play well enough to make the cut, and don't need to play a full 72 holes.

It pretty clear everyone badly wants to beat DJ and Reed.

It’s not Rory tears badly but you can see in interviews they are annoyed by being boat-raced.

Having a cut after 2 days certainly puts a lot more pressure on a Tour players game than the LIV withno cut.

Jason Day and Ricky Fowler found that out this year.

Add in a extra 18 holes on Tour really stresses a guys game even more.

That's just a fact. Now I can see why someone that hates that kind of pressure would go to LIV along with the upfront money.

With the new elevated Tour events the cash will be available for players who have their game in shape.

The majors never hinted or indicated they would ban anyone. The OGWR decision is separate. No one with a brain cell should've thought the R&A, USGA, PGA or AGNC would ban a previous winner or someone who had already qualified in some way. The R&A released its statement because that topic kept being brought up.

Or Matt Wolff, who ran off to LIV because he couldn't finish in the top 100

According to Davis Love, the PGA tour players should boycott the majors if they allow LIV players to play. Can't wait to see if they do it. My guess is they won't.

That would be stupid and I hope that it was said in the heat of the moment.

If your a gambler the odds would be in favor of a Tour member winning all of the majors just because of sheer numbers.

DJ, Smith and Neiman would be the biggest threat IMO.

Of course, LIV may add some players by the first major.

That being said if an independent contractor wants to “work” somewhere else for more money, that’s their business

Have they been declared independent contractors
By anyone other than themselves? Has a court decided this? Does one have to?
