I usually do. Not best practice, but it's more comfortable and it feels like better balance and traction. I'm absent mindedly unloading the squat bar and I slide a 10 lb plate off the end. I have just enough time to think "well frick this is gonna hurt" before it lands a few inches from my bare foot. I'm no engineer but I'm pretty sure the impact would have been enough to put me in a boot for a few weeks. Stay safe.

I wear Xero shoes when I’m squatting and dead lifting. Same feel with a little bit of protection.

it probably would do the same if you were wearing shoes.

I lift in socks mostly.

Merrell Trail Gloves or barefoot. Trail gloves wouldn’t protect me for a dropped weight.

Barefoot for most things. For legs, I wear a pair of ONs that have minimal cushion.

I've done that with a 5 lb weight with shoes on and it hurt like hell. Luckily it hit the top of my foot, I think it would have broken a toe.

I hope you are not talking about a public gym.

There is a bigger girl who comes to the gym around the same time as me and she always takes her shoes off at the deadlifts mats. She doesn't do deadlifts there, just other exercises, but it just grosses me out.

I sometimes just wear socks but I workout in my home office. I’ve got carpet and some mats in there. On leg days I wear shoes but if I’m just doing upper body I don’t bother.

I workout in my garage at home. Never barefoot but I have some old Altra trail runners that are zero drop. They are my workout shoes

I squat and deadlift at the gym in socks. Squat university guy is big on grounding. I work out in old running shoes which are not ideal for those lifts.

In a public gym, I will squat/deadlift/RDL/BSS/etc in my socks or my Vivo's at most. I've gotten weird looks before, but I don't see the harm - can't be any less sanitary than taking a piss at the urinal and then going to do the same exercises - and if they cared enough they would say something. If I have my foot on a bench doing split squats I wipe it - which you don't see people doing otherwise. Would never go straight-up barefoot in public, mainly for my safety and sanitary concerns over other people's perceptions.

At home, I'm socks at the max but usually barefoot.

Nothing will do that.... unless you're wearing steel toe shoes.

Unless you working out in your own gym.... working out barefoot is disgusting.
