Fish oil supplements

Any particular fish oil supplements that stand out better than most? I know I should be eating fish more but when only 2 of us 3 eat it and a newborn on the way, I'm not trying to make the cooking process anymore complicated than it needs to be at home.

Sports Research Triple strength Omega 3. I hate the fish oil burps and this one is “burpless” with EPA/DHA fatty acids from single sourced Alaskan Pollack. I have liked most Sports Research supplements. *Not a paid endorsement

I take this one and really like it. Over 2gm of EPA/DHA

Get the triglyceride form
I’d also look into krill oil instead of fish oil

I'm fine with tablet and liquid form. Fish oil burps do not bother me. Major trade off in benefits between krill vs. Fish? The fish we would be eating at home is mostly going to be salmon and occasionally cod.

Some say Krill Oil is better absorbed therefore more benefit. Jay Cutler used to eat one or two pounds of cod a day. Great choice of fish.

No burps from these

Eat sockeye salmon twice a week and avoid rancid fish oil capsules.

All that stuff is snakes oil man! Eat healthy, exercise, quality sleep and have sex as often as the wife will let you. Can't fight genetics.

My PCP, who is a DO and advocate of supplements, recommended I take these as a high quality, potent fish oil supplement. Purchase on Amazon.

I stopped taking them regularly. Newer study says they can actually harm healthy people. Just do your research

Interesting.
There are several foods out there rich in Omega 3.
Tuna, sardines, mackerel, salmon.
Walnuts, avocados, flax seeds.

2-5g a day.
10-15g can harm.
1:1 ratio EPA to DHA is the best. Make sure EPA at least 1000mg.

Here's a little food for thought:

Could a supplement that people take for heart health actually lead to worrisome heart rhythm changes? Most people take fish oil with the expectation that it will lower their likelihood of a heart attack or stroke. Articles in the medical literature have been hinting at such a benefit for more than a decade (Current Vascular Pharmacology, Jan. 2008; Cardiology Reviews, Sep-Oct. 2010). But research has been accumulating that fish oil supplements are linked to atrial fibrillation. The latest study was published in BMJ (May 21, 2024) and concludes:
“Regular use of fish oil supplements might be a risk factor for atrial fibrillation and stroke among the general population…”

This was a big, long-term research project. There were 415,737 participants between 40 and 69 years of age. The study period with follow-up lasted 11.9 years. Roughly one third of the volunteers took fish oil supplements.
In a nutshell, there was about a 13% higher risk of Afib among those swallowing fish oil. There was also a slightly higher risk of stroke.

Well, frick. Were they taking a high dose? Is there a smaller dose or ratio that didn’t show a higher risk? I’ve heard Rhonda Patrick champion this as THE ONE supplement that everyone should take for the past couple years. She’s onto higher doses of creatine for brain health more lately, but haven’t heard her retract any of the fish oil claims.
And what’s the best magnesium product/dosage out there? And does my creatine need to have the Creapure stamp of approval? I swear, take off for a year and everything changes. Exercise is still beneficial for health, right?

Second for Nordic Naturals. They’re a little pricey but they’re clean and no aftertaste.

There is also the size of what you need to swallow for the proper dose. Krill oil is tiny compared to fish oil.

I take 3g Sports Research Triple strength Omega, in addition to eating sardines, mackerel, and salmon almost daily.
Every time I get blood work done the doctors suggest I take fish oil or eat fish regularly, so whatever it’s supposed to do apparently isn’t working
