That was 405. That honestly should have crushed his sternum. I am gonna say I am skeptical and the dipshite has no spotter but has someone filming him, with collars on the bar. Something isn't passing my sniff test.

Looks like he mounted the phone himself. As someone who does suicide grip, this scares the shite outta me. I also get a spotter when going 225+ though.

That was a real 405, the bar flexes a little. He is lucky he’s not dead. Under no circumstances do I lift without spotter arms. A human spotter isn’t helping if 405 is dropping from that height.

I bet that guy is not ok

That’s why I don’t bench more than 185

Do spotter arms prevent you from being able touch the chest with the bar?

I set mine about an inch below where the bar goes. If I lost grip, it would hit me a little but not crush me.
I’m also not lifting massive weight though.

I've always done monkey grip but use chalk to prevent slippage.

It depends on what you have access to. A rack with west side hole spacing, i can get it perfect, bar sitting flush or slightly above my chest. Then when I lift with a slight arch, I don’t touch the spotter arms.
With my other rack, it has wider spacing so I do like the poster above says, my chest above the arms but if I dropped it, I won’t die.

He's dumped that much or more before. His whole attitude was, "been there, done that, frick."

This is what I used to do with my cage - doesn't impede range of motion for a flat bench, but I can spot it myself and either roll it down, or slide out.

That was my goal - maybe risking a little sternum bruise (which never happened), but unlikely to cause serious injury or death.
Same thing with squats - just below the bottom - I could dump backwards or if I collapsed (never happened) at least the weight wouldn't come down on me, too.

but has someone filming him
A tripod or smartphone stand isn't going to be much help with 405, my guy.

Not entirely sure what you mean by this

I think it’s legit. People today are always setting up phones to record themself in the gym.
Also, I don’t think he walked away unscathed. Looks pretty embarrassed, but you could see him wince as he started to walk away. That hurt like a motherfricker.

I really should be using a spotter in the gym when I am benching over 225

Yeah I watched it a few times again and I agree now. I also forgot about setting up a camera in a gym but holy shite why this dude put this out to the public if he was the one filming. Makes him look like a tard, especially putting collars on that much weight without a spotter.
A quick and almost deadly reminder about collars on bench:
I actually was doing decline bench back in the day when I should say I was slightly enhanced. I progressed through my normal rep range and hit 455 for 3. I told my spotter that I wanted to go for 495 and he was like go for it. I put on 5 wheels a side and for what reason slid the collars on. I got it off the rack, went down smooth, and got about 6" up but could not lock out. My spotter who was a friend kept yelling that I got it but when I failed, I went down hard and then that was when the fun began. He could not get the weight back up on his own and the bar and my elbows pinned weird so I could not press up at the normal angle and with it being a decline, gravity was rolling the bar toward my throat. I thought I was about to die. Seriously. Luckily another dude saw this shite show in progress and came to help and they both got the bar off me which all of this could have been diverted if I had no collars and then could have just see sawed it off me and dumped plates on the floor.
