Ordering seeds for spring garden. Sorry if not allowed in fall garden thread- but need some ideas.
Was hoping everyone could share one or two of their favorite and best growing veggie or herb seeds/planrs for southeast LA.
I nominate the suyo long cucumber. They grew relentlessly last year and with zero problems and normal watering. Tasted great fresh and pickled. Very crisp.

I always plant them too early. Hopefully someone will chime in on soil temps.

I planted some in grow bags last year.
I then put them in a wagon so I could move them in and outside.
I left them in for a few months.
When i pulled them out, some were normal sized and some where pea-sized
They were delicious.

When do you suggest playing them? LSU guide says right now

I don't remember exactly - I believe I did what was recommended; but since I had them on the wagon I did drag them inside one or two times early on (they had baby leaves on the top) when it got close to freezing outside.
If I did it again I would try the laundry basket method as I'm not sold on moisture and the grow bags. I did have some mildew looking stuff on one of them.

We love the various mins. Have grown mini-me and at least one other variety in the past.
I was able to find Blue Hubbard squash seeds locally and will be full on war with the borers this spring.

I planted my potatoes a couple of weeks ago and they haven't started sprouting yet. Do I need to be concerned about the cold temps that are coming in the next few days?? I thought about covering the bed they're planted in to keep them as warm as possible but wasn't sure if it was necessary.

If you’re saying you planted tomato seeds outside directly into your beds, then yes it is way too cold for them to germinate. Soil temps are hovering around 40 right now, they need 70 +.
Most people start tomatoes inside under grow lights in advance of planting.

The 2026 spring garden prep is hitting full stride today. Where’s the new sticky Pillage!?!

I’m well into Spring garden mode. Started hardening off tomatoes, marigolds and chamomile this morning. Peppers and eggplant will be up potted next weekend. Beans, corn, and potatoes and going in the ground now. Cucumber, melons, and okra and getting direct seeded at the end of February. I tend to jump the gun a bit, but thinking I’ll be putting tomatoes in the ground in about 2 weeks
