The thermostat clicks when it turns on but the system doesn’t come on. At first you could hear the hum like it was trying to come on but then just wouldn’t. Now the thermostat clicks like it’s turning on but no sound whatsoever - nothing with the system comes on.

Don't know if it's the best but I replaced a 30 yr-old Rheem with a 2 stage Ruud. I figured if the Rheem lasted that long, I'd try going with the same manufacturer.

Could be the outside fan is not starting and the compresser is in thermal overload (too hot).
When is you tech coming back out?

An electrical issue that consistently occurs, like now, should now be easy for a tech to diagnosis, but when issue occurs intermittently, it’s more difficult to troubleshoot.
Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s an issue with the furnace/air handler control/circuit board that sends the call from the thermostat to the outdoor condensing unit. They do fail.

I suggest you TURN IT OFF until the tech can get out.

That being said our American Standard is the best AC I've ever owned. It's the same thing as a Trane now, just different branding.
I think it has always been the same thing as Trane. Trane was purchased by American Standard in 1984, I honestly don't know if they made ACs prior to that. I always thought of them as plumbing fixture makers back then. Since 2007, Trane has not been owned by American Standard but by Ingersoll Rand. They continue to produce ACs under both brand names. They typically have the highest user satisfaction rating.

Not sure if this will be helpful to you but here are the user satisfaction and reliability graphs from consumer reports. 7 of the 9 brands listed with 5/5 or 4/5 are produce by 3 companies.
Americans Standard and Trane are the same manufacturer
Carrier and Bryant are the same manufacturer
Lennox, Armstrong, and Ducane are the same manufacturer
If you buy new, probably won't go wrong with any of those or Mitsubishi.

First the capacitor was replaced. It worked again for 24 hours and stopped again. Then they replaced the motor outside and again, it worked for 24 hours and is now working when it feels like it. Sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn’t. -- I know that's frustrating, but nothing to consider replacing it for. May be a bad connection or the contactor.
20 minutes, i’d know what was wrong.

I think in the 1980’s, Trane bought out
GE. Those tan colored square units that would never quit.
They closed the Climatuff compressor factory in Tyler, TX. I believe late 90’s, early 2000

To The OP
I myself am connected with bryant.
Install is more important than brand.
Correct duct runs are most important.
Recognizing wrong things and correcting them are vital, more so than brand.
If you see your copper refrig lines in the attic making a big arc up in the attic airspace, that needs to be cut down and
fabricated level to downward. That is a big oil trap. Correct size copper lines. If not, change them. No 5/16 or 1/2 liquid line. The suction, the manufacturer charts give more leeway there.
Running nitrogen just before soldering at least the suction side pipes.
So much stuff more important than brand.

FIL just got his replaced and went with middle of the line but reliable Goodman. He’s happy. $5,800 for outside unit, coil, blower, and used the existing lines and duct work.

Thats a good price. Of course, I don’t know if that was electric heat, if they put a new sheet metal plenum, and recut the circles ?

Not Trane. I have two of their pieces of shite. The only thing worse than their products is that garbage arse company and worthless warranty.

10 years in not old for an AC unit. My neighbor put in a Goodman about 14 years ago and he runs that thing 24/7 and it's running strong. He even let's it run when goes on vacation. Goodman is made by another name brand, I don't know who but I did at one time.

Daikin. The house I just bought has a brand new Goodman so I hope it’s good…man

The Japs bought Goodman, so it’s Dakin. But That has not been too long ago. Goodman was Goodman.
Installed right, and maintained, many brands last.
