Anyone have any luck with using a film for privacy, heat blocking, etc.?

I was curious how much this costs. I've seen a few before and afters on TikTok and it looks really good from the outside with the mirror finish and has to keep the inside a bit cooler.

Yep.

I put on a 3M product on windows to block rays in my media room several years ago. Been great and no issues at all.

Bought from Lowe's

Yes

Hired a guy to come do my truck. Truck looked good so I asked about house. I had about 15 or so windows. 6 of them to the ceiling overlooking pool. They work great for both privacy and heat blocking.

I bought the one at Lowes and put it on myself. It wasn't that hard to do.
You really need two people to do it though to make sure everythign is lined up right and goes on smoothly. If you put it on right, then getting the bubbles out is easy.

Not hard at all.

Just use plenty of the spray. More than you think you need. Then squeegee the bubbles and liquids out from under the film.

In the years we have had it (I'm guessing 7 years?) no bubbles or other issues.

Could you find the exact product you used online somewhere? Sorry, I know that's a lot to ask

I reallllllly need this on my West facing windows. My house feels like a greenhouse in the afternoons right now.

I used the Gila film myself in our master a few yrs ago. I watched a few Youtube videos first. Dropped our daytime summer temps in our room at least 5 degrees.

film for privacy

Here is the thing about using them for privacy, Unless it is opaque it works based on relative light levels. So if it is dark outside and you have a light on, people can see right into your house but you will see your reflection inside the house.

I used some cling film on my front door and it’s holding up well. Sort of a pain in the arse to cut the correct window shape, but got it done.

I know people that have had this done and it helped with insurance for impact rating, I can’t remember it just makes the glass safer basically.

I can concur that it makes the glass safer. We had a neighbor’s shingle come through one of our master windows during Zeta. The glass pretty much stayed together because of the film. Although it did puncture a hole in the window, it did not shatter.
