Yeah a #1 ranked transfer class says our roster wasn’t exactly stacked. Nit too much to pound your chest about until it translates into the field.

This reminds me of all those threads over the years of people crowing “Gumps have nobody coming back!” Then they’d just reload and beat our asses.
As someone said, they didn’t lose many and with their recruiting class, they didn’t need many transfers. 2019 and 2022 were outliers. I’ll start laughing when we start beating them consistently.

They had 21 total, and 8 of those were four stars.
ETA: to give perspective LSU had 37 going in the portal and only 1 was a four star.

If you just look at it on paper it made sense. Successful coach who proved he could win at Fresno State and then took Washington to the national championship game in year two. By any other standard in the country he's done well going 20-8 at bama and making the playoffs in year two. But we all know that isn't going to cut it. Not at bama. And not following a legend.
It was always going to be tough to follow Saban. We all knew the dynasty would come crashing down but nobody could've known about NIL and the portal. Those two things have been hardest on bama. Now players can be paid legally and they can buy their own Dodge. They are no longer the it school where all the cool kids go.
