What's stopping a guy like Lacy from doing the same next week?

Yes I know we have a great RB and should be happy. But, if Williams can actually get out of what he signed what's stopping anyone else?

Are we getting to the point where signing your name on a contract means nothing anymore?

If it benefits us, frick it I'm here for it. But holy frick is this nasty!

The saying "in law contracts are written to be broken" isn't literally true; contracts are intended to be binding, but the legal system provides mechanisms for when they are broken (breached) or become impossible to fulfill, allowing parties to end agreements legally through remedies like damages or termination, rather than just abandoning them

And so can every guy that we “sign”. Everyone is fair play and can leave whenever they want and enroll at any other school

A contract lawyer is going to grow one hell of a business on the backs of revenue sharing.

I don’t think there is anything binding. The whole point of unrestricted transfers was people complaining that programs shouldn’t be allowed to force players to stay when they don’t want to.

Seems like the only recourse they really have is to recoup the money paid to the players at this point.

In short, it’s a fricking shite show.

Let's be honest too - schools want to have their cake and eat it too.

This weird hybrid of these are not professional athletes paid by the school rather paid by collectives is weird

If he breaks the contract and gives money back what are the real damages can they not to pay someone else. They want to say the school is damaged but that isnt who the contract is with necessarily.

On the rev share with school were it is a contract with school again what are the damages to Washington? They can go get a portal guy

It’s actually a really interesting legal issue. The schools are adamant these players are not employees yet they want to hold them out as such. It’s also going to be difficult to prove what actual harm/damages the school suffered from a player backing out on a contract after only a week or two. Payments likely haven’t been made yet to the player so doubtful much if anything would be owed back in that respect.

The NCAA also doesn’t allow pay for play so even a revenue share agreement with the school directly can’t really call for a specific performance requirement of playing for them.

Let's get as much chaos as possible to force action so that cooler and smarter heads sort all of this out and give us back some semblance of college athletics.

It’s like….player: ”sorry I changed my mind and am not honoring my contract”. “

College team: “but if you don’t well be really mad at you and try to make it as difficult and as aggravating for you as we can to leave”

Player: lol whatevs. Peace!

At this rate, why would the players agree to any kind of restrictions. They hold all the cards.

Also, I’m not a lawyer or anything, but how would a CBA work if more than half of your union is turned over every 2-3 years? Could newer players sue that they weren’t represented when CBA was agreed to when they become the majority of players?

Im all for this getting more put of hand than it already is, then there's nowhere else to turn. Representatives for schools and reps for players will have to get together and form a working agreement. Then we'll get some structure and law and order back.

I have said it many of times. There will be a lot of polemics players at LSU after ole miss looses including Lacey.

There is nothing they signed enforceable or even transpired yet. I’m not sure what they signed but what ever it was, has to be for x amount. They haven’t paid x amount yet. Could also state that “I signed with the notion of Chambliss getting his waiver”. That didn’t happen. So things change.
