Just so all of you know: Alabama asked him till wait till the July 22,,they talked to him about grey shirting him etc, etc and if you looked else where on the web, Auburn has offered...and Florida State is hot and heavy after him...so end the speculations as to why....Miles has seen film on him before any other coaches months ago...

He's just thick. Doesn't look like he's got much baby fat - just a big ole country boy.

Welcome to the Tigerland, Josh.

All the comments about coaching players up, you can't coach speed. And this dude is sloth-like. Not saying he isn't a good pick-up, just 5.3 does seem a touch slow.

Herman Johnson was listed with a 5.3 40, similar size, similar speed, hopefully JW can be similar in performance. Who knows at this point.

Houston Nutt and his OL coach Mike Markuson had this kid as their no. 1 target on the OL accd to the OM board, and they've turned out beast after beast on the OL that were nobodies coming out of HS. That along w/ Miles' and Coach Stud's eval are all I need.

I want some 5 Star depth.
dont we all

of course i want the top 25 rated guys every year, but having all 5 stars isnt going to happen. get over it. i dont know a whole lot about the kid. no offers from in state schools and minimal evaluaton from scout/rivals isnt a great thing, but have some faith. im not talking about blind faith where you have no reason to believe. the coaches have a track record for success. if theres one knock on st nick's time here, it was lack of depth on the oline. miles has fixed this problem. the OL plays very well. dont freak out just yet, bro

and since OL is the biggest crapshoot to evaluate out of all the positions, just have some faith and give it some time.

When it comes to O Linemen, whose evaluation would would you trust more, Miles' or Saban's?

Given Miles' background, and his staff, I would have confidence in Miles call on this. He gets the benefit of the doubt.

Half of the top ten guards on rivals are listed at 5.1 to 5.3 40 times. I don't think his forty time is going to be a problem.

Well I dont see us using him to make plays in space, he may could return punts though.

Lineman routinely dont break the 5.0 second mark. Where the hell is all this talk of OL speed coming from??.

I truly believe that one of Huston Nutt's strongest points is recruiting great offensive linemen that come out of the blue.

If HDN is hot after this kid----then he must be good.

He said he didn't play O Line until his junior year so no one really noticed him early. I think he played at the 2A level. That probably doesn't matter but it seems it takes longer for some of the recruiting sites to evaluate the smaller school guys unless they are just off the charts.

On another note it may have taken a while for his video's to get out being the pony express runs slow these days. Do they even have internet in Bama yet?

Valuable at LT to stop speed rushing DE/OLBs

For a Guard not so much.

good post. Markuson should have won the Broyles award in '04. that was the yr. Arky lost all 5 starter in the OL + key reserves w/injuries. they ended up 2nd in the league in rushing. among those he coached the last few yrs.

Jonathan Luigs (1st team AA; Rimington winner)
Robert Felton (2nd team AA)
Nate Garner ( 2nd team SEC)
Zac Tubss (1st tm. SEC)
Tony Ugoh (3rd tm. AA)
Stephen Parker (2nd tm. SEC)
Kyle Roper (2nd tm. SEC)
Shawn Andrews (1st tm. AA)
