not going to lie...i really like JC but i think this is a good thing for both LSU and him. I think it was his dream to play there, but i just dont see him as being quite good enough for what Jay is building. Maybe I am wrong, but i didnt see it. He is a great HS player and someone that under PM prolly should have come, but Jay is building a machine, a top roster and i dont think he fits.

I really hope he goes osmewhere were he fits and has an amazing career and makes it to the pros.

Wouldnt be surprised with the influx of barbe/st louis players going to Tech that he ends up there or ULL

Don't see Will Hellmers on the roster unless I'm missing it so omissions are

Connor Simon
Trip Haddad
Will Hellmers (edit: he's def on there, I'm blind)
Adrian Siravo

I watched all but the first few minutes or so. I didn't hear of any key losses. Is it still a secret?

He didn't mention anything at all like that. Said they figured out what the issue with Milazzo's knee was any they got it cleaned out which took care of the pain he was having. Mentioned that they will take it cautiously with Coleman on his way back from surgery.

dont get me wrong, he is a stud but i do not beleive he is at the level of say a gavin guidry or even a debarge as a fielder/hitter. He is a lefty so plays mainly 1st or could play outfield and i just dont see him as that kind of dominant hitter to take that 1b spot.

as a pitcher he is damn good too, but again not of the level of say Guidry or a landon victorian who a class ahead and a class behind. He will be one of the better seniors in the state but Jay is building a monster in BR and i just dont think he would see playing time.

now he seems like a great kid and has been super super nice to my boys and i hope he hits the weight room super hard and starts throwing 98-99 in 2 years and is killing the ball. and in years past i would say he absolutely should go to LSU...now with the way the roster is shaping out, the changes in the way D1 is recruiting with the portal etc...i think its in his best interest to go to a place like tech or ull. if he kills it, hit the portal.

Maineri recruited Vanek as and took his commitment as a pitcher. I don’t think Jay liked JC as much as Paul did. That is not my opinion; that is from someone that would know.

would imagine that is the case. but from Jays perspective got to look at it as yea he is a big lefty at 6-3 and 180, but he is only hitting 89 tops and sits mid to high 80s. Lots of those guys around. Granted he has plenty of room for potential growth cause he is only at weigth to height ratio of 2.4, if he could get to 225 lbs mainly muscle...i think it would be a game changer.

problem is his exit velo and 60 yard time are good not great too.

lots of potential but problem is that Jay is building a roster that doesnt have room for a lot of project type guys. It sucks and i hate seeing College baseball this way but thats the way its going.

in the next couple years...most commits will be transfers from other smaller programs and from JUCO. prolyl only be taking 5 or so hs kids a year.

I think there are some schools going that way, or like Kentucky, already publicly stating that is their strategy. But I don't think we end up going fully in that direction because it's not sustainable.

Usually in the portal you're getting a guy with some warts. Hurd has injury history, White has defensive questions, Skenes looks about as good as you could possibly get, but did it in a smaller conference. You get the idea.

You're always going to get better program consistency through the traditional routes and even though Jay said he's learning to build year to year, he also says he likes the development side of things, which means more time with guys.

Jordan Luna from Opelousas Catholic started off pretty highly ranked in that class but other guys have passed him up. It's a deep class in state though.

Dobson is interesting, his dad is the hitting coach for softball, which apparently has drawn some consternation from the big fans on that side.

i think its a long term trend. personal opinion over the next 5 years you see the SEC/BIG12/ACC schools trend big time to transfers except for a handful of instant impact players each year.

I think the B1G and Northern schools go that route almost exclusively because you can scout ready made projects and snatch them from lower level schools with a lot less risk.

I think we've seen the peak or we're nearing the peak of having so many transfers. By rule or by design, it just won't last.

due to injury I don't even think Vanek pitched much last year

he pitched a good bit toward the end and in the playoffs. but he was also the #3 even when healthy.
