McKenzie got his $3MM from the Braves.
Wow. Well can’t blame him. Glad he stuck to his number at least although that sucks for us.
I was reading an article earlier that said Hamilton has a strong commitment to college so maybe it’s not a foregone conclusion that he signs but the same article said Detroit drafted 4 college seniors ahead of him so they’ll have a lot of money to throw at I’m I’d imagine.
Plus I’d have to think going that early is still enough to assume he’s got a deal in place
Part of me holding on to hope lol

Volchko, per On3 team is emerging for him. LSU or Arkansas.

Can someone explain the designated student athlete thing? If we have say 40 players with 1 medical redshirt, what's the negative to having 5 DSA?
As far as I can tell, the negative to giving someone a DSA spot is they will be allowed an extended portal opening. If they choose to go to another school, their DSA exemption follows them to the new school. I believe it only applies to players that were on your roster last year, but yes DSA players do not count toward the roster limit.

All I read in that is that the roster limit is not really 34
Yes, it’s not really 34. The judge in the House Settlement wanted some type of grandfathering roster spots so players who were currently on rosters didn’t lose their spot. The DSA designation stays with you as long as you are in school, so 2025 Freshman could be exempt from counting toward the roster limit until after the 2028 season. After that it would be a hard limit.

Prefer Reddeman over Volchko
But anyone but the Hogs getting Volchko makes me happy!

So if I’m understanding there’s really no downside then to DSA.
In which case DSA:
Pearson
Williams
Rizy
Schmidt
Evans
They will be on the roster at least 2 more years and buy you 39 roster spots for those years.

Will DSA players be able to play during the season?

I'd think you would also DSA a guy like Yamin. I don't really understand the whole thing, though. I could go several different ways in exploiting the rule.

Obviously the expectation would be to DSA the back end of your roster - the guys you’d truly cut. But if there are no restrictions on the DSA players and it’s only a 1 time thing then I’d think you’d exploit it by DSAing the guys that will be on your roster the longest to have as many roster spots for as many years as possible.

They want the universities to act in good faith. One of the stipulations
*if* they would have lost their roster spot because of the new roster limits.
Im not saying there wont be loop holes, but this was essentially created for Walk Ons that were going to lose a roster spot due to hard roster limits.

you have to submit it to the NCAA too so I assume they can calm shenanigans

I took it the same way. I would assume they'd reject guys that participated a good bit, had financial aid and/or NIL, received awards, etc. It could get really wild otherwise. I'd just DSA the whole team bc I'm not sure who I want to keep or process or who's going pro, etc. I'd do that in good faith, obviously.

Yeah, I'm with yall-- sounds like we should have just DSA'd the entire returning roster because they're all either not going to transfer or we don't care if they do...
Even in "good faith", I would say Beck, Primeaux, Pearson, Yamin, Fontenot, Benge, Reaves... none of them played enough to "prove" they would make a 34 man roster... That's 7. Plus Aase makes 8. That's 42. It honestly sounds like there won't actually be a limit that matters for this season...

Are the DSA athletes allowed to get scholarship money? Participate in the revenue sharing?

feel like we said the same thing [going to make an impact] about Priester last year.
I read the reports and had myself convinced that Priester, Ware, and Guidry would be stars of last year’s team. Guilty as charged

Jay likes to refer to Reaves as a national champion. Can’t hurt that this guy won two
