It begs the questions, does Jay feel like he was that important next season? Is our NIL pool that big? Or is Jay complicit in getting our guys the most money he can?
I think it’s safe to say a combination of those three things
When talking specifically about Hamilton, the NIL cost vs the importance next season would have probably been weighed against guys like Dax Dathe and Zac Cowan. If Hamilton wasn't going to contribute more than them next season, plus not provide the roster flexibility those two guys will offer by finishing out their eligibility, then maybe it doesn't make sense to spend a large amount of NIL to get him here. Especially if it really feels like his heart is set on going pro.
Now extrapolate that decision tree to all 40 roster spots, consider that 1 or 2 of those spots will go away each year for the next few years, make sure there is both roster continuity and talent to compete for a championship, it's a whole lot to deal with.

Don’t think I saw Hamilton post a single pro LSU post during the run or previously for that matter. Just don’t think he was ever coming

Not many of the signees were active on social media, to be fair. It’s pretty crazy that a pitcher signed for 500k after seeing how guys have been developed. We had people turn down significantly more when it cost guys to show up to school.

I’m not sure you’re not CJJ
This Cards thing just to throw everyone off?
Regardless, the agents admire the job you’re doing. LOL

If tweet fails to load, click here.Pitt is now keeping high(ish) draft prospects. Have any of our guys not signed? Things like this are getting my hopes up lol.

CJJ just added the name Ligenza to his whiteboard.

All of our guys have signed.

Just for perspective on where NIL is at, LSU was willing to come up with slot monies. That is not a guess
Can you elaborate a bit on this?

Nic Bronzini has transferred to Little Rock. He didn't throw much, if at all, at Washington.

He has a great mafia name.

I’m referencing Frey, but it surely applies in other instances

Yeah, I said before the draft that it would take a million to make Frey leave. I got optimistic when the slot values got lower than that. Happy for Ethan though. He got what he deserved. Hopefully he makes the big leagues and has a great career with the Astros so we can all watch him easily. One of my favorite Tigers ever.

He was a control problem guy, right?

He walked 29 guys in like 24 innings over 2 years in JUCO. He didn't pitch at all at A&M. This summer he was in a pretty low level summer league with teams in Texas and Arkansas (Mid-America League) and he only walked 8 guys in 16 innings, with 32 Ks (over 50% K rate).
There is something there, he's touched 100. I'm skeptical he'll find it at ULL, but that comment is based more on them than him. I think he could eventually get a pro look.

Thread has slowed down considerably. Draft/portal szn came to an abrupt end. Seems like our draft monitoring is done and we’re only really waiting on 1 potential additional arm in portal.

It will ramp back up a little bit in a few days when the contact period opens up for 2027s.
Usually the time for a new thread is when school starts and Jay has that opening press conference.
Then there will be a flutter of activity during football season as guys take visits. We seem low on pitching in the 2026 class, so I'm guessing that's going to be a focus. We are loaded with highly draftable outfield and first base bats in that class though.
ETA: A 2026 guy I hope we can add, though he'll be a draft risk, is RHP/SS Jensen Hirshkorn from around Fresno, CA. 6'7" 205, touching mid 90s. Uncommitted currently, was never committed anywhere as far as I can tell, so I think he's kind of just emerging on the scene. He will be at Area Code games after just participating in a Team USA event. We are on him.

Jared Mitchell is currently doing color commentary on the Senior League World Series on ESPN+.
That's notable in that it's low stakes reps that could mean he's in the booth for SEC games next season. I know he's not in BR anymore, but I would have liked him instead of Rantz.

Is he better than Jackie Bradley Jr.?
That seems to be the bar for SEC color guys (no pun intended) not named Ben McDonald.
