AD has to do his due diligence on this hire
Look at Aggies with their promotion last season

No different with LSU hiring Johnson - you have to find the best candidate not the popular candidate. So many wanted LSU to go back to the Bertman pipeline.

on another note:
looking at LSU roster numbers
2026 roster - 39
after season up to 21 could depart
leaving 18

add in 23 commits gets us to 41 if lsu lost all 21 from 2026 roster
4 of the commits are highly unlikely to make it through draft which puts LSU at 37 not including any future portal players added to the mix

numbers will work themselves out and several more commits will likely be in a position to make draft decisions

But they’re in a much better position than A&M because they can name their guy interim. they get a free year to audition him.

A&M needed a HC Tennesseee right now needs an interim Hc.

If he ducks then you move on and hire outside and the boosters would have supported him at least saw he didn’t work out.

Would you say Wasniewski is on commit watch? It looks like we've been trending for him lately.

Not sure, will get a better feel when I’m there tonight. But it’s quite the experience they getting coming to Alex box and then Death Valley the following night. Always feel good if we get them on campus.

Not sure if there’s any truth to it but I saw the coach from coastal is getting interviewed by Tennessee

Looks like Murphy and Washington are here at the scrimmage. Hard to see the others in the dugout.

I just find it hard to believe a coach would leave his school in the middle of fall practice to go to another school. But this is an unusual situation.

Watching a Vol-related podcast & the host just said the Coastal is a possibility, nothing said about any interview.

Am I crazy in thinking that Elander isn't the slam dunk Tenn people think it is? I understand he's not Ealy, but I don't know that the "players want this guy or they'll leave" hire has ever worked out? Outside of Ed Orgeron falling arse backwards into Burrow.

Like, i think Schnall would objectively be a better hire than Elander. I get that Elander is a top recruiter and hitting coach, but he's never been a head man before. Tenn just invested $100 million in the program. Would stepping into that pressure cooker be the best thing for a first time HC?

I don't know, maybe I'm just pulling a Danny White and overthinking the hell out of this thing.

I just figured they would ride this coming season with an interim coach and wait to hire a full time guy next summer. Mainly because I didn’t think anyone worth a damn would leave their current team in the middle of fall practice to take another job.

The D1 podcast was difficult to follow.

Vitello was the greatest to do it over the last 20 years, but Elander is the recruiter, Elander ran the offense, strength coach is staying and Frank Anderson is still coaching the pitchers - so Tenn won’t miss a beat.

They never circled back to what Vitello was the greatest to ever do.

The D1 guys will never be negative.

But it’s impossible to shower Vitello with accolades for taking Tenn baseball to places it hasn’t come close to in its history and then argue anyone else will pick it up where Vitello is leaving it and continue on the same path.

They only gap they mentioned with a transition to Elander is big fish portal recruiting. That would be a massive gap.

It was mostly Chris Burke though - so a lot of wish casting. KP did jump in and mention Jay when the group was talking like Vitello is peerless.

Looks like Schnall handled the pressure of the interview about as well as he handled the pressure of the CWS finals.

He reaffirmed his commitment to Coastal. And Ross Kivett had a tongue in cheek tweet as well.

ETA: just saw the news they actually promoted Elander. Best decision they could have made.

Yea Vitello is outstanding and to suggest they won’t miss him is wishful thinking.

I get it that LSU has the history and tradition, but they were hardly elite in Paul’s last few years. Jay didn’t walk into a loaded roster. To act like Jay is not right there as the best in the game is dishonest. Hard to argue with 2 natties in 3 years.

Also worth mentioning they are speaking like they assume Elander is gonna be the choice. Sounds like the AD may well want to move away from
The Vitello regime just because.

If they choose to hire from outside, it’ll be very interesting to see what happens with their recruits

Not to mention he took his previous school to Omaha twice in 5 seasons.

you’re not the only one, I get big Chad Holbrook vibes from this situation. When Tanner retired from SC all you heard from Scar fans was that Holbrook was doing all the recruiting and he was the best recruiter out there and how great of an offensive guy he was, and the show goes on etc. Obviously since then it’s been an uphill battle for that program to get back to being elite. Again Tennessee may not miss a beat but maybe it’s me with the purple and gold glasses on but I do think they take a step back.
