Is this just speculation or is this from the former Coach?

My own research. A few hours after I posted that, he retweeted Jay’s Tiger emoji.

Genei Sato, Pitcher from Japan who throws 99mph transferring to US for college. I’m sure he’ll end up west coast like the kid at Stanford but may be worth a look.

Though it does say:

"Due to his university plans, he is not expected to play in league games in 2026, but he plans to participate in the summer league that year in search of a real game opportunity. He will make an impression in front of major league scouts on this stage, which is said to be a stepping stone to MLB. In 2027, he plans to play in the university league games at his transfer school while waiting to be selected in the MLB draft that summer."

I don't know how aggressively we will pursue the guy, but it looks like we're going to at least try. It's hard to imagine him going anywhere by the west coast though.

Wonder what’s up here? Seems like if it’s health related then rehabbing at LSU would have it’s advantages?

Coming off injury which made him miss fr year at Tenn
Doubt he was going to get many innings at LSU in the spring based on the fall

My guess is JUCO to make sure he can get some innings
That puts him back in play for the draft as well or he can get recruited again from JUCO

I saw him pitch twice in the fall. Was struggling to hit 87-88 mph on his fastball. That’s slower than he threw in high school and he’s almost 2 years out of surgery. I’m not a doctor or have inside info but it doesn’t seem like his recovery was going well.

Sato is going to Penn State. Weird, but apparently there is a connection there.

This is from the article on D1Baseball

quote:

Penn State felt uniquely positioned to make a pitch to Sato thanks to his countryman Masanosuke Ono. A gold medal-winning wrestler at the 2024 World Championships in Albania, Ono committed to Penn State in late March to learn and compete in folkstyle wrestling for the Nittany Lions.

WJP23, have you come across
Liam Radke, RHP out of Faith Lutheran,
LV, NV. 2027. I’m in Reno and have heard that name a few times. Looked him up and not bad stats for a sophomore. Committed to TCU.

Looks like Riley Cooper got released by Baltimore this offseason. Hopefully he can catch on somewhere else in affiliated ball, or at least in an upper tier Indy league.

I saw a juco pitcher we evaluated that signed UDFA with the Mets this summer was released recently. That’s brutal. He could have had another year or two of college baseball but instead he gets essential 5 weeks of pro baseball and right back into trying to find another pro opportunity.

With what's going on in college basketball, I wonder how soon we'll see guys be able to come back to/enroll in school if they fail to make it to the big leagues.

It's been happening in D2 for years. It's never been a big number of guys, but HS draftees and international signings have been able to go back to play D2 baseball and any years in the minors just used up years of eligibility.

So the rules are in place for it to eventually reach D1. Which I think will happen at some point.
