The real question is will West Monroe ever produce an LSU caliber football player again?

They will, there’s no Catholic League there to steal them away

They had 2 this year. Receiver that signed with Washington and Offensive Lineman who signed with Tulane. IMO both could play at LSU. They also have a lineman who was on LSU’s roster this year.

So basically the scenario people had an issue with is the one that actually happened?

sounds weird until you realize he’s probably the same age as most juniors.

RB RJ West from West Ridge Middle School in West Monroe. He runs a 10.5 in 8th grade

For context, 10.5 is what Harlem Berry ran in high school as a junior. That's a strong time for a 15 year old.

15 is what most 10th graders are… so just a year behind in your scenario

Not in the 2nd semester. Most turn 16 in the second half of the school year. Looks like he held back once. Elsewhere from WM.

Honest question, do y’all start school at 4 in South LA? I never held back and I turned 14 as an 8th grader. My kids didn’t hold back either, same 14 as 8th graders. Hell, they were the youngest kids in their class honestly girls and boys.

I started school at 4 and was held back yet graduated at 18.

Regardless of grade, if it's a true 10.5 he has elite speed at 15.

My son is 14 and in 9th grade. Will turn 15 in April. Luckily he has grown rapidly over the last year 6’ 195. I was 5’6” 135 when I was his age.
The biggest difference is that we would probably run 15.5 100’s with some wind at our backs

Definitely a little old for his grade

a little but i mean only by about 3 months. he will graduate at 19 but he is completely elgible.

the whining about kids turning 19 their senior year is dumb. Either get the rule change or shutup about it already. and I say that as a Barbe fan and WM having tons of those 2 years ago when they beat barbe in the ship.

Not whining, but he is objectively old for his grade, and not by just 3 months, more like 6 months at the least.

I started school on time, at 5 yo, and graduated at 17… so 15 as an 8th grader seems crazy

If you have a late May, June, July, August, or September bday, you will be 14 all thru 7th grade.

So that’s like 35% , based on bday months

This. I always have said it’s not like holdbacks are only limited to certain programs… we have to play by the rules as they are and not as we wish they were

not really, the cut off for most sports is may 1 for the age group. so he is only about 3 month ahead of where what most would consider normal which is graduating at 18

no you started school early, sure the rules allow you to sneak in but graduating at 18 is the norm

that puts you 14 for 8th grade
13 of 7th

and thats the norm for sports

sure the kid is considered a grade hold back for sports purposes but even for like PG which has the most strict policy, he would still be eligible.

the rule is simple though...dont turn 19 before aug 1 of your senior year and you are good to go.

Being near the cutoff still makes him old for the class. Again, objectively.

Using a date closer to the start of the next school year and not the start of the summer is a better middle ground.
