This is exactly what our defense lacked this year. A guy like this erases gap mistakes by the front 7 and limits bust to 10 yard gains not TD’s.
I don’t remember a single time this year that a safety came from the hash and made a play on a ball in the sideline.

He has hands like a wide receiver.

He’s a top 50 prospect or higher in any 2026 draft prospect list that’s available. We should be piling up money to try and get him here for sure.

"Pro Football Focus Raves About Purdue Safety, 'Freak Athlete' Dillon Thieneman"

quote:

"He's as fun to watch as any player in the country. An 89.5 overall grade — that led the nation. That was third-best (grade) ever by a true freshman safety behind Jordan Whitehead (Pitt) and Derwin James (Florida State). Those are two really good names," Wasserman said in an episode of the PFF College Football Show.
"(Thieneman) is the best single-high safety in the country right now."

LINK

quote:

Because of his success last season, PFF ranks Thieneman as college football's No. 3 safety entering the 2024 season. That's a pretty high mark for a sophomore.
"His range is better than 80% of NFL safeties right now. I guarantee it. He's that good. ... He's the whole package: Speed, aggressiveness, ball skills, everything you want in a free safety," Wasserman said.

Seems PFF can't figure out if they like him or not.

Maybe he had a less than stellar sophomore season. Sometimes scheme, coaching and lack of talent around a player can affect their play. See LSU 2023.

Looks impressive. Could LSU even create a minute’s worth highlight reel of high-level safety play from this year? Not sure they could…

That is hilarious and no they couldn’t. This guy just became my #1 priority if I am BK. Get him signed immediately and prove you are handing out receipts!

A safety who can tackle in open space and also fill running lanes is definitely on the wish list. Yes please

Yeah I said that. Thought it would benefit to include all of the data. Like I posted above, to have a historically good season and then a considerable drop off would likely indicate some extraneous factors like scheme or talent around him. For example, House made some good players look bad and bad players look terrible.

This other guy graded worse. He was the 5th rated player on an 1-11 defense. But ya Sage Ryan sucks lol

His freshman highlights better than anything u can put together in sage 4 yrs here ! He jumps off the screen and makes plays. We have nobody we jumps off the screen at safety.

You must be smoking the pipe tonight if you think we have anyone on our roster that showed tape like this. For goodness sake look at the closing speed alone. His hands are WR quality. He also hits like a truck. Sage Ryan is no where near this talent level.

Next to LSU getting Pickett, getting this proven safety is a major need postion, DT should be a very high priority for CBK...pay the man.
