What's going on with Bryce Calloway?

Reports are that Jay has talked to him, but things have been pretty quiet lately.

We're probably waiting to see if there are better options than a guy who struck out 30% of the time in the Southland

He could also potentially get drafted and head to pro ball

Indy leagues don't really draft

I think we would prefer Thach if we can get him to the draft and depending on other positions, we can have Dardar there or Yamin

Thach would be a good pickup, but one way or another, if Frey leaves they need a big bat to take his place.

I wouldn't give up on him. JJ was able to fix some of Bear's problems on the fly at Omaha.

I can't tell if you're seriously comparing this kid Jones.

I got to see him play last year in the wooden bat summer league. He was very effective out of the bullpen, too.

I'm saying that given a full off-season, Johnson can make him an effective addition.

I'd rather roll with what we have than bring him in.

If Frey leaves (which he likely will), who's the big bat iin the lineup? John Pearson? Dardar? Simpson? Will Jake Brown make the jump to double digit HRs?

Yes yes and yes. I’m sure we will grab another bat but if Simpson makes it to campus, I would expect those 3 to combine for 40 homers

Milam and Curiel will both be capable of hitting double digit homers as well.
Arrambide will easily have double digit homers if he progresses like we hope.
I don't feel we need to recruit over guys we already have with Calloway.

He had 8 homers this year with about 70-80 less at bats than the full time starters. It’s not unreasonable to think he could reach double digits next year.

Someone I’m sure you will bash a dozen times by May

Let's look at at-bats per home run. First Jones and Frey since they were to two top producers.
Jared Jones 12.68
Ethan Frey 13.92
Now let's look at returning guys
These are skewed (likely) due to the low number of at-bats
John Pearson 10.5
Cade Arrambide 15.5
Tanner Reaves 21.67
Now the everyday type players at the end of the season possibly or likely returning
Steven Milam 21.91 (hit double digits this year)
Jake Brown 22.25
Derek Curiel 36.86

He had 3 fewer at-bats than Frey, who hit 13; he had 101 fewer than Jones, who hit 22. Hernandez had 9 with 4 fewer at-bats than Brown.
But if he plays every game and can get better against lefties, he will easily cross into double digits,

Good assessment. I suppose only time will tell, but I think Brown and Curiel will be the most likely to take the next step

Milam has sneaky pop in his bat he could definitely go on a run of HRs. He just needs to be more consistent on the follow through in swings. He hit a lot of pop ups this past season mainly because I feel like he was pressing for those HRs. He went on a tear in post season play because he just did Milam things in the postseason.
