(9,115 yards), a distinction he still holds

It's shocking Hodson's record still stands, given the impressive numbers put up by Burreaux, JD5, Matt Flynn, Jamarcus Russell and Garrett Nussmeier.

Help me out, what was the last big HOME game against a non-conference opponent? My brain goes to 2007 Virginia Tech, but surely we’ve had a better one since then?

2007 VT is probably the best option. We started playing the neutral site games in earnest in 2010 so big OOC games at home went by the wayside.

Some of the P4 teams we played in that timeframe: Syracuse, Washington, UCLA.

WVU in 2010 was the highest ranked P4 opponent we've actually played at home since 2007.

It’s going to be great watching a retooled offense and Lane smash that fraud Dabo. Dabo was created by Les Miles going brain dead in the peach bowl and will end thanks to NIL the portal and the beat down Portal King lays on his candy arse

USC was number 1 when they played LSU not the same.

The interest will be by the Lane lovers or haters on what his LSU will look like.

2007 Va Tech.

We had other big ones scheduled but they would get cancelled, moved to a neutral site or we’d end up playing the first game there and the return trip was cancelled. Verge was horrible at scheduling.

Man I’ve been lurking for almost a decade but you made me sign up to share a set of stories from a non-con home game. Washington 2012 was a thing of beauty. Price, their qb, had recently lost a shootout in the Alamo Bowl against RG3 the prior season, so there was a lot of hype leading up to this game. ESPN was reporting that they brought a real tiger or something like that to Washington practices leading up to it. First play of game we fumble the kick off return. Washington proceeds to go 3 and out and get a field goal. We proceed to score the next 41 points. As I’m leaving the stadium I overhear a sad Huskie fan said “we came all of this way and I saw 3 points. 3!!!” I thought the whole home and home with Washington was pretty cool. The game against Sark and Jake Locker in 09 was very entertaining. It was also cool in 2012 seeing an old Huskie fan snap a photo of the bell tower like he was in Europe or something. Cool exchange of cultures

Hodson was a 4 year starter and played 44 games.

Burrow (28 games) and Daniels (26 games) were only at LSU for 2 years. Flynn was a 1 year starter. Russell (36 games) played in the mid-2000 Jimbo Fisher offense for 2.5 seasons.

Nussmeier played in 40 games. He would have easily surpassed that number with a repeat performance of 2024.

Virginia Tech was #9 in 2007 before they came into Death Valley and had their dreams crushed.

Not only that, had we not scheduled Virginia Tech in that game, they would have ended up playing in that National Title game instead of us. We finished with 2 losses and they would have finished with 1 had they not lost to us.

We’ve had so many openers at neutral sites.

This practice needs to die.

With the 9 conference game SEC schedule, sign a home and home with a power conference team and play our home game with them the years we have 4 home and 5 away SEC games.

The economic impact of a high profile season opener in BR can not be understated. Promote it to local businesses as such along with a TAF fundraising drive. Have them donate a percentage of game day related sales to NIL in exchange for advertising/promotions that weekend.

Not sure but wasn't Utah State ranked when Love QB'd them in Tiger Stadium for an 11am game a few years ago?

The key word is ‘home.’ Pre-SEC Texas A&M would be my pick.

The Ohio State game in '87 was pretty nuts. Not Hodson's best outing but OSU was top 10, mainly because the D was salty as hell. And that TS lit up when Dunbar blocked the FG to "secure" the tie. Great game, shitty outcome.

I was at that game in Tiger Band. Earle Bruce delayed the Buckeyes coming out while we were in the tunnel, trying to time them coming on the field at the same time as the Tigers to avoid the boos. The crowd got louder and louder while we were standing there. Then, on the first play of the game, Tom Tupa couldn't get the snap off due to the crowd noise. It was awesome!

I remember that after the game, Hodson said something like, "They say a tie is like kissing your sister. Well, I have a pretty sister, so this is worse."

I can't wait. The roar of tiger stadium will be restored.

the concourse around the student section will look like a scene from wwii with soldiers fallen from heat and booze. some old people will go down too, but that's not as fun.

What about Oregon State where their prized kicker missed several field goals and quit after the game which was an absolute downpour

Yes, but all the QBs you listed played just 1 or 2 seasons. Hodson started 4 full seasons.
