20% of this board wanted Eyanson benched the first month/2 months into the season last year

Zac Yorke Sr. 6'2 295lbs (33) Bats-L Throws-L
quote:I mean the guy is no Usain Bolt, but I somewhat disagree. IMO he moves VERY well for his build and has shown it by beating out throws and making throw outs on the base path difficult for defenders while executing difficult plays himself defensively. There will likely be a dropoff from Jones' fielding but big boy has impressed my untrained eye so far.
Speed is below average...I will say he moves lighter than what you'd expect. His glove is average, range is below average, he moves generally ok for his frame
quote:Meh. Both he and Yorke need to improve their digs in the dirt as evidencd by a few balls almost getting to the dugout yesterday.
Pearson is actually a great athlete for his stature and a little better defender than Yorke.
With Reaves at second this may become critical (hope not).
quote:Impressive kid with a good eye and execution at the plate for a true frosh. He's misplayed a couple of balls in the outfield as he adjusts and learns the position at this level.
Mason Braun
I will say that his "misplays" should be easily correctable with more reps, as it was mostly taking the wrong first step in an incorrect direction.
He's a well raised and polite person. Comes from a good family. Kid will ball out here IMO. Hopefully we can hang onto him for the next three years as Jay, Chief and Chris Martin develop his bat and offensive tools.

Ya, not sure why people keep short changing Yorke. Guy is natural around the bag.
Braun could obviously see some time at 1st, but not sure he has played there much this offseason. Simpson and even Dardar have seen reps, but I think they will also use all 3 catchers there to give them rest days. All that said, I don’t think Yorke has many days off unless he really struggles.

Jones glove and footwork definitely surprised and shined last season, but I don't expect much of a drop off with Yorke out there. Especially as he continues to gain timing and chemistry with his infield when the lights are on.

What's your prediction for 2B?

Yorke has loads of personality and is easy to like. I would say his speed is right there with Bear Jones and is probably more athletic. He has soft hands and unlike Jones, probably has played 1B since little league. I don't expect a defensive drop off at all.
Pearson has practiced at 3B, 2B and 1B. He lacks experience at 1B and was unable to dig two throws yesterday out of the dirt. I think Pearson is capable of playing any of those positions but there are better options defensively at all three positions. He will continue to progress defensively and his bat could be factor if he gets it rolling
Braun has played in the outfield the last two years and hasn't played any 1B since arriving at LSU. I believe he is more than capable of doing it though. His skills at 1B are supposedly very good. He's a very likeable young man and is team first and will play where the team needs him. He is still adjusting in the outfield but like ClassyDoge said, he will figure that out. Impressive hitter and I wouldn't be shocked if he gets some DH opportunities opening weekend.

Braun will play RF next year (I think)

What's your prediction for 2B?
Yorke wears a glove on his left hand baw...

I ask because I'm putting Dardar as my prediction but don't know if he'll start opening day.

quote:My feelings also. Bear made some spectacular snags and digs defensively at first but a couple getting by Zach here and there early on are all that I can rag on him for. His footwork around the bag has been excellent IMO. Let's see how he does once the season progresses...I'd wager that your assessment will most likely be accurate Wild.

So if Adam doesn’t see his shadow can baseball season start even sooner?
Thanks for the previews.

I cant wait till some of the predictions this year by some posters. Some are very comical.

One poster wanted Reaves to be the starting 3B LMAO......

This might sound silly but guys like Reaves and Pearson' playing time will hinge on the offensive output of the rest of the penciled in guys. If the offense struggles, they get more at bats. If the Browns, Milams, Curiels of the lineup can carry the load, then I think you'll see the better defenders at positions like 2nd and 3rd.
I've been rewatching some later games from last season and Reaves can really put the barrel on the ball. It just seemed to fall to the warning track every time. Jay likes him so I don't think he falls out of the rotation completely, but I think Jay knows if he has enough offense output then the defenders will stay in games (Re: Braswell)

One of my notes

A lot of warning track in the fall as well. He just doesn't have big power legs. That being said, he crushed one over the bleachers this spring. I know making the routine defensive play and adding a tad bit more power are two main things he is working on.
Dardar already has those two things but perhaps doesn't have as much defensive and offensive potential as Reaves. It's a toss up and can go either way. I'm leaning Dardar as well but Reaves will probably get first start and we will see how things go.
