At the one fall scrimmage I went to, Drost played CF full time for the Purple squad, and stayed to play CF when Gold went on defense. He’d swap out for Stevenson two batters before his turn to bat, then go back out to CF when his AB was over

I don’t know how many more scrimmages Johnson did like that, if any. But it was clear that day that Johnson would like very much to have Drost be able to play CF and unlock what is probably his best offensive lineup.

Something like:

1b Morgan
RF Crews
3b Berry
LF Dugas
2b C. Doughty
C McManus
SS Thompson
CF Drost
DH

Regardless of the starters…this is one of the deepest LSU teams I’ve seen in awhile.

I don’t really have a prediction other than McManus will start over Milazzo.Johnson wants to score runs,Milazzo will have to make big improvements if he wants to get behind the plate consistently.Prolly play mid week a lot to start the year

I just want Tre Morgan to lead off and not Dylan Crews. I will trust JJ and staff to decide who plays CF/RF and 3b.

I don't know why you say that Bianco isn't bad at all. He's actually a damn good CFer for what it's worth

The team doesn’t have a true CF. Bianco could get some run, but I think he’s more of a natural RF

Your true centerfielder is Morgan but he's a damn good 1st baseman too.

I like Doughty leading off.

I actually like the idea of Doughty as leadoff and is something Johnson played around with the latter part of fall. Doughty was even the leadoff for at least one, and I think both, of the exhibition games this fall.

If his avg stays up like he did in the fall, then it’s a perfect fit. Someone that can work the plate, get on base, has some speed and instincts to steal, can be a doubles machine like he was in the fall, and gives some power as well, but in the grand scheme is probably the 5th most power bat in the lineup; so not really a 3/4 guy on this team.

The bat juice in that first 5 is best we've had in a long, long time. That is some serious MLB type power.

I'm almost physically aroused at the thought of it

And then throw in McManus

The rant as a whole criminally underrate Bianco’s athleticism.

I’d love to see Morgan in CF & leading off

All about Morgan leading off, and I know we've had this discussion a lot on here, but he's an elite first baseman that saves bad throws often, I just feel like his value is greater there.

But if we have another great defensive 1st baseman, I'm all about it.

I think Morgan ends up batting 6th.

Doughty
Crews
Berry
McManus
Dugas
Morgan

I just can't see that with his OBP and average. Dude gets on fricking base...a lot. And led our team in stolen bases. He's a pretty perfect leadoff.

Crews is only guy that had him beat last year in OBP and average and that was slightly and he has power so I don't think you see him 1st.

It is a good discussion to have, but I agree with you. He saved so many throwing errors last season.

Right. I think his VORP, if we looked at just defense, would be so much higher at 1st than CF.

Morgan’s ability to move off first base will be dictated by the other guys on the infield. I don’t see how Berry could be at third with anyone other than Morgan at first.

If we play a more defensive lineup across the infield with Doughty or Merrifield at 3rd, someone else (maybe Berry) could play first.
