Okay... so again where would 222 pounds rank him among our linebackers?

Your point was that he has the size to play linebacker. He doesn't. Comparing him to Ali is a moot point because Ali was very undersized. Was he a good linebacker? Yes, absolutely. But Ali didn't project to play safety in the NFL. Chad Jones has the potential to be a first round pick, and a high first round pick at that... as a safety. Why would you put on pointless weight to make him a weak linebacker when he's already a stud safety?

TSD says he is being used as a linebacker/safety hybrid in practices already FWIW.

Which just means he's a safety playing nickelback.

this is not a big deal, except that the blogger uses the word "linebacker", which is apparently a cuss word to some on here.
Here's the deal.
LSU will be in nickel A LOT this year, probably more than traditional 3-LB package. That guy filling the nickel slot looks like it will be Chad Jones instead of Danny McCray.
Given McCray's struggles at times, and given the incredible upside of CJ, is this really a surprise?
What I want to see if how Jones handles covering WRs. McCray was a liability there, to be honest.

No you're not. CJ's highest and best use would be at LB.

Exactly.

Once again an idiot misquoting. I said nothing about playing defensive end. Try reading a thread before you post on it...
And I agree that more speed is needed on Def these days with the spread. Give TH a chance.
You know you wanna see it and see it work well...
Yet another :epicfail:

this is not a playstation game. chad jones is not and will never be a linebacker.and no your not the only person on here that thinks of this. many other dik faces are just like you.please leave this up to the guys who get paid to do this part. if you want to put chad jones at linebacker do it all you want to on your video games

Wow. So many things about this post those are inappropriate or wrong.
First, why the anger at someone simply because they expressed an opinion that you disagree with (one that may prove to be correct)?
Secondly, I don't own, nor have I ever owned a play station. I gave up video games just before my first term on the Board of Supervisors under the Roemer Administration.
My best advice to you as a teenager (or at least I assume you are a teenager based on your post) is to be more open minded in your discussions with others and more intelligent in your rebuttals.

Buddy Roemer? Man you just dated yourself big time.
Posted on 8/11/08 at 12:08 pm to LSUTigerz
We will have some 2 LB sets and some DBs will have to be run stoppers and cover TEs. With all these spread offense we will nedd only two LBs and a versatile defender will be needed that can be half DB/LB.

i dont think its a terrible idea to have CJ at LB, but he is a safety, and thats where should play. At the same time though, he definitely needs to be on the field.

I couldn't get anybody else to date me.
I was on the Board under Roemer and EWE. I am probably not as old as you think. 41 this September.

Before you start calling people idiots, remember you're the one wanting Trindon Holliday to 'speed rush' the QB. One question, I have for you Mr. Genius, what is he supposed to do to the QB when/if he gets there? Another question, what if the QB calls an audible and sends a Jacob Hester style back through the same hole Trindon is blitzing from? I'm afraid we'd lose the little guy........but then again, I'm an idiot.

He's like 210 or 215. Our linebackers are all above 230.
How much do you think Highsmith weighed? It was likely well under 220.
I'm not saying I'd want Jones at LB, but your point about our LBs is incorrect as recently as last year.

Again, not saying I would do it myself. But, the answer to that question is obvious. You would do it if you feel like you have another safety (Harry Coleman) who will see the field before Jones and if you think you just need to have Jones on the field and believe he could be successful in that role.
