It was televised by "Miz-Lou." Hall of Fame Bowl in Birmingham and the Garden State Bowl at the Meadowlands also wanted LSU as well.

Oh, Happy Day!
I yelled "Help Mac Pack" more than a few times in Tiger Stadium.I wasn't alone.

It wasn't a face mask on Benji Thibodeaux.
And the tackle Moved before snap.

This was my freshman year at LSU. I went to the game.

Didn’t the replays show his hand just barely grazed the front of McDonalds facemask but was surely a ticky tac call!
They do confirm was a movement by the tackle but we should have W that game! I missed it but we listened on WWL could hardly hear John’s call from the crowd entire game!

I was there
Many people grew up knowing no president other than FDR.
I started going to the games in 1966 and thought that Charley Mac was going to be our coach forever. We didn’t know what a coaching change was like.

Cholly did great job at LSU and was a good man.

I had the honor of meeting Coach Mac at a golf tournament years after he retired. He was so gracious. We talked for about 10 minutes and he answered some questions I had about teams and players he coached. Before I left, I told him what an honor it was to meet him. I’ll always remember his reply. “ Well, it’s always an honor for me to meet a Tiger fan”. WOW
Younger people today may never know what real class is, compared to times past.
RIP Coach Mac.. you were and always will be a credit to LSU.

He just could not beat the Bear. 2-14 vs Alabama. During Mac's tenure, Alabama had two seasons with only 6 wins(6-5, 6-5-1), those were the two seasons Mac beat them.
Two of LSU's longest tenured coaches(and the two who coached the most games) happened to coach when Alabama had two of the greatest college football coaches of all time.

Of course, McClendon wasn't alone. When asked one time about all of the coaches that had played for Bryant, Mac said "yea, he helped a lot of us get in the business. He also got a lot of us fired."

I got to meet Coach McClendon in 1979 at New Iberia Senior High School. It was the day before National Signing Day and our star running back was the #1 recruit in La ...Johnny Hector! I had 5-6 period Coaches aid to our Head Coach and there were some big-name coaches in our gym camping out to visit one more time with Johnny before the big day....Tom Wilson head Coach at A&M along with R.C Slocum who was recruiting Johnny...Fred Ackers head Coach at Texas along with Recruiting coordinator Coach Williams ...Lucious Selmon from OU was also present which he had been for the better part of 6 months watching practices and games then flying out to Coach OU DL on Saturday's ...Charlie Peavy was there he was the OC at LSU ...Coach Peavy came into the Coaches office asking if there was a phone he could use for private call...I lead him to the HC office where he called Coach McClendon and told him to get to NI in a hurry that they didn't have Johnny Hector signed sealed and delivered the day before signing day (Johnny had signed a state letter of intent back in Nov. of '78). Coach Mac was at the gym in 1 hr....came in a State Troopers car...I'll never forget that Coach Williams asked to use a phone also, I led him to same phone in our HC office he made a call to Mrs. Browner (Ross and Joey's mother ) informing her that they would be in Atlanta by 6 for another visit at her home with Joey (he went to ND). Well Johnny signed with the Aggies 2 days after national signing day and after a prominent LSU backer made threatening phone calls to Hectors home (FBI traced the calls to a Dentist in Lafayette). Well, I got to meet Coach Cholly Mac and that was so cool for me as my family had and has had same LSU tickets since 1954! Man, today's recruiting is so F upped compared to the way it was in the 70-early 80's.

Absolutely true, I actually had typed that out but removed it. Also true of Les with Saban and O, and Kelly, for that matter.

Well, if you want to be that technical, as far as I know, they never actually fought.

Appreciate it. And by all means, if you find yourself in NC and happen to see it, say something!
