There was also some 2023 scheduling talk earlier this week.
I could see next year being a trip to Arlington. Arizona played there this season, probably scheduled by Johnson. We have 2 guys in the 2023 and 1 in the 2024 class committed from the Metroplex. I could see us going there next year and then again in like 2025 if we get all those guys to campus.

Would definitely be nice to be a part of at least one of those types of weekend trips each year.

The physical similarities between Frey and Reacher are uncanny.
So we might be getting Thad Castle. Nice!

Another player similar to Frey in terms of playing multiple sports that will be interesting to watch moving toward the draft is Robby Snelling. Mid 90s from the left side does not typically make it to campus.

I am trying not to get to excited about him for that exact reason. He would be a huge get if we can pull him to campus.

Lineup I would like to see for a game this weekend:
Morgan, 1B
Crews, CF
Berry, DH
Doughty, 3B
Jobert, RF
Dugas, LF
McManus, C
Thompson, SS
Merrifield, 2B

Yeah, I'd like to see Merrifield and Doughty flipped.
I'd like to see more of the freshmen too. Leto, Pearson, Stevenson.

Wouldn't mind seeing Bianco getting some reps at 2nd with Doughty at 3rd. I just want to see if his late season surge will carry over to this season.

I don’t know if I talked about this in this thread or another, but I don’t think JJ—or any coach if they can help it—wants to mess around with his middle infielders if he doesn’t have to. They need to have really good chemistry and be able to communicate without speaking. And you can really only build that with reps/innings of just being on the field together. And I’m not sure they’re ready to make Merrifield a guy they just automatic write in the lineup every day like Doughty.
1) I think they’re gonna keep trying to force Berry into a position, so 3rd has to stay an option, and 2) I’m not sure how Merrifield is gonna handle SEC pitching. I was a big fan of Merrifield’s bat/glove combo based mainly on his Eunice un,hers and accolades. He’s handled the bat well so far, but he looks kinda awkward at the plate to me. He may hit .350 in SEC play, but his swing looks like it may have a hole in it that gets exploited by better pitching. Hope not, obviously. Seems like a great kid. And I’d chalk his struggles Wednesday up to the wet turf—no need to panic and move him off 3rd. Unless you don’t like Doughty at 2nd, in which case, disregard everything I just typed.

I understand those points. I had some of those thoughts come to my mind also. I think he will continue to put Berry at 3rd and RF this weekend. In an interview yesterday he mentioned that he believes Thompson is one of the best SS in the country and that Doughty is one of the best 2B in the country. With those comments it seems that for now he wants to stick with that middle infield.

Yeah, I’d like to see Jobert log time in right and see how he looks there.

I'm thinking Jobert in RF and Berry at 3rd with someone like Pearson at DH is a very good possibility at some point this weekend.
Also want to see if Bianco will be available and how he will be used. Maybe if he isn't fully ready he can get a game or 2 at DH to get some AB. Johnson said he had a slight set back playing last weekend though so not sure if he will be good to go this weekend.

This makes absolute sense.

I'm wait and see on this. He looked awkward on the turns. Could be turf, could be just awkward.

I think he's a good enough athlete and good enough baseball player that he can work himself into a reasonable fielder anywhere on the diamond honestly (given the time constraints of a college season, we won't see this side of him until pro ball). I think he was playing 3rd at a really high level at the end of last season and would have liked to see him continue to excel there.

I live less than 10 miles from the ballpark, I have been waiting for them to come to Arlington.

Because Money made perfect sense as Friday night starter if we’re going off of career history right?

Though it was always fun watching the Jordan brother play. No one played harder.
This was always said, but I saw no evidence that the Jordan brothers played harder, or less hard, than most others. Take Gavin Dugas as a comparison. What about Andrew Stevenson? He was always stretched out diving for fly balls.

Doughty starting the year at 2b 2 years in a row with different coaching staffs is really confusing to me. We had such a big hole at the position last year they tried Will Helmers there. It seemed like Doughty was the only obvious fix and it took several games for CPM to realize it. Now Johnson is doing the same thing. I’m not sure what it is that they see to profile him at 2b over 3B, but there is obviously something the coaches see that fans don’t. I just always thought he would end up at 3B no matter what.
