i'd LOVE to care about MBB again, but as it stands right now, it's not even worth the time, much less the money.... garbage arse product, and unitl wholesale changes are made, we will continue to be a garbage arse product

administration wise? I dont know if they care but as for the fans...if they start winning, the fans and the funding will followPosted on 1/29/26 at 8:33 pm to Tmcgin
If having a shittty men's BB team means we have a great football team (funds included), then by all means.
I don't think $$ is an issue though.
Finding the right guy is.

That's ok. 99% of college sports fans don't know LSU won the college world series last year either.
yeah but they are stupid and baseball is the best

My man, you need to travel around the country.
I l ive in VB, VA and my job takes me around a decent portion of the country.
I PROMISE YOU, statistically speaking, NOBODY watches college baseball.
If you still doubt me, would you care to explain why the meager TV revenue it does receive is lumped in with the other FORTY minor sports in the college package?
Why doesn't it have a TV package of it's own worth BILLIONS like the 2 major college sports do?

Solid reply. ERRRYYBODY is stupid!
ESPECIALLY the networks that fund college sports. They should just throw tons of money down the drain to broadcast something that nobody watches.

Unfortunately it seems the LSU admin does not care about the only money maker outside of football and apparently many fans don’t either. It really is a shame because there’s not much more exciting than cheering on a great ball team marching thru the big dance.

It's kind of a shitty sport. Possessions are pretty repetitive, refs make it unwatchable, and the bonus makes it incredibly anticlimactic.
I used to love college basketball. But it’s boring now. Nearly every team runs a high ball screen offensive set, with 2 guys in the deep corner and two others beyond the arc, with no movement at all.
Most teams play man defense with little zone, presses, or traps.
The refs call way too many fouls.
And in too many games, the last two minutes are unwatchable, with fouls, free throws, timeouts, and lineup changes.
The game bears little resemblance to what i loved back in the 80s when i was at LSU.

Only to an extent. The funds do not exist to prioritize every sport. Athletic Departments have to pick.
This is why you see a variety of schools that are high level in one sport, maybe two and average or below in all others.

LSU basketball has been something of an afterthought for the last 20 years if not longer. With moments of halfway interest with Martin and Mickey and O Bryant who could not get past the second round and Wade's teams that while successful, never generated the big buzz of even the 2006 team and certainly nowhere even close to the teams of the 80s.
Plus college basketball as a product is meh overall these days.

Not unless it is at least an NCAA tournament team. Do Kentucky, Duke, and (yes) Indiana really care about football?

The fact that this is a topic of conversation for years tells you that LSU Basketball is NOT a priority for LSU. Mystery solved. You're welcome.

You definitely could say the same thing about football. Probably baseball too with the analytical aspect of constant, situational pitching changes, and the 3 result approach to hitting
The issue with basketball today is mult-factored. AAU took the place of HS as the primary "developmental" league. AAU is nothing more than a showcase for grifters. The players within aren't being taught to play a team game or develop skill. It is far closer to the "streetball" many LSU fans claim to see. The Warriors (and analytics) changed the game. Midrange shooting is a "bad" thing, and there isn't a ton of back to the basket post play. "Good" shots are 3's and drives looking for either a layup or foul. Golden State was ridiculously successful with their space and pace style...but that was largely because they had one of the best shooters in the history of basketball. No one else has that. Regardless, that analytics say shooting 38% from 3 is better than 42% from 2. It's like baseball in the sense that you will live with 3 Ks in 4 ABs if that one hit is a 3 run HR.

How is this any different than baseball?

I've told this story here before but back the summer after we won the CWS under Manaeri - I was at Murphy's Bleachers before a Cub game with my LSU gear on a several folks approached me - one was from Tennessee and another from Alabama - there to watch baseball mind you - and they had a vague notion LSU was good at baseball and asked me how LSU did in baseball. They asked because they had no clue LSU won the CWS just 2 weeks prior.

It's why men's basketball at LSU makes money and baseball does not even though more folks go to baseball HERE. Ratings will never be good enough for anyone to commit to a huge television contract for college baseball. It will never happen.

never knew majority of the rant hates college baseball with all these downvotes
