I agree with your ceiling/floor and I'll meet in that middle with a 9-3.

Would feel way more confident about 10-2 if we can win a season opener

Most realistic outcome is that the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle. Ceiling 10-2 Floor 8-4

Agree with you. I’m thinking 9-3 again, but 10-2 or 8-4 wouldn’t surprise me. The defense won’t be very good (better but not above average) and it will be tough to duplicate the ball security on offense like we did a year ago two seasons in a row (only 8 turnovers, tied for 3rd nationally).

I think the two mega conferences are going to beat the crap out of themselves. So it will be likely 3 loss teams get in. LSU being one. Our O line and a good QB will get us far with the D determining our run. Like everyone else...win that damn first game and we are off!

LAST YEAR was the championship run, blown by House and the historically bad defense.
It was blown by BK. He hired House and knew they had problems. He didn't do anything to mitigate the issues. House is one of the worst hires in LSU history. That's on BK. 23 will always be the "what could have been" season.

I think the ceiling is 12-0 because every game is winnable and BK has done that before in his career. It would be pretty tough to do it though. We have 3 easy wins, 5 should wins, and 4 tough games we could win. Will make for an interesting season.

This. We are favored in every game but A&M so 11-1 could very much happen. 12-0 may be a stretch but could happen too

To be fair, I don’t think we could have beaten UGA or Michigan with any DC

We've won 10 games the past two years - it's time to start moving beyond that.

Nuss threw for 400 yards in his first ever start at QB. We have the best offensive line in the SEC with talent and depth at running back. Any slight drop off in the passing game will be more than made up for with an improved running game.

The defense still has some deficiencies up front, but the coaching across the board is superior.

10 wins in the regular season would get us a 7th or 8th seed in the playoffs with home field advantage in the first round. I think an 11-3 season with a first round win in the playoffs is a completely reasonable expectation for this team.

Getting a big win against USC in Vegas to open the season is absolutely critical.

If we’re talking realistic ceiling, why is it not 12-0? I’m not saying it’s likely but do you really not see a scenario where we run the table?

Cause I don’t see a single game where I can’t fathom us winning it.

What game on the schedule makes you go “they’re just that much better than us”

I think the OU game will be a playoff elimination game. OU has a stud future 1/1 QB that will be experienced by that game so it won’t be a cakewalk

Night game vs OU Thanksgiving weekend to go to the playoffs. Yes please

There’s none, but a poor defense coupled with an inopportune turnover or two on the road could also make you ripe for an upset against what is perceived as an inferior opponent.

To be fair, House’s defense did much of the heavy lifting in 2022. To say the complete collapse in 2023 should have been expected is unreasonable.

I do agree though that LSU’s defensive issues showed up pretty early last season and there was little to no change in the overall approach throughout the season others than to try a few new DBs. That’s on Kelly. Sometimes you have to realize your game plan simply isn’t working and pivot. Kelly never did. He just hoped to out-offense everyone.

2021 should have been the archetype. LSU’s defense was bad in 2020 and the first half of 2021 when Ed was forcing the team to run his 1990 Miami fan fiction defense. Once he was out, LSU completely changed their overall approach vs Alabama and suddenly became one of the better defenses in the SEC.

Kelly is a good enough coach to understand the approach wasn’t working. But he wasn’t decisive enough to mandate an in-season change. Maybe it would have made no difference. But it something different couldn’t have been any worse.

The defense doesn’t have the players to carry this team to 10 wins in the regular season

The new staff is legit but they have to have the players to win and LSU doesn’t have that at DT and CB/S

This will be another CBK special with a 9 win regular season and a bowl win that gets LSU to 10 wins. The rant will continue to tell us CBK is doing thing the “right” way

The talent and coaching on this roster should not be below 10 wins
