The excuses this guy gets year after year are mind boggling
He is unquestionably the worst coach we have had in any major sport since Curley Hallman
And Curley had a better SEC winning percentage
It really is amazing how every year people keep making excuses for him. It's insanity.
You don't get to an abysmal record such as his with just having "bad luck". It takes a lot of shitty coaching and terrible roster construction to get to where he is.
The dude finally gets his 15th SEC win in 4 years and people are already coming out saying he should get another year. I swear we have some of the dumbest basketball fans in the world.
Imagine trying to convince football or baseball fans that a guy with his record here deserves another year.

How about no. IDGAF if Matt is a good guy or not because he looks in over his head at LSU. He’d do better coaching a little team like McNeese and Wade should be back at a blueblood university.

I like Matt. I hope he’s successful. I can be happy for him today.
I am thinking it’s time for a change, but I am a casual fan at this point. I’ve followed the team more closely in the past. If they want to keep rolling with McMahon another 2 years it’s not that big of a deal to me. I suspect most fans have grown indifferent to LSU basketball. I’m already on to baseball.

Why would any new coach want to come to LSU and have no NIL money. How would you build a roster and recruit without NIL money?
Posted on 1/18/26 at 7:58 am to donwheat33
Weird how every other SEC coach has done more even without big “NIL money”. Maybe he’ll figure it out next year.

Well he did beat a powerful Mizzou team at home, so yeah, I'm now on the Matt Train (McTrain).

It really is a sight to behold. These same people will go into witness protection if we end up dropping the next two. Such a reactionary fanbase. Shows how little basketball they watch.

It’s year 4.
I would love for Matt McMahon to be good because I doubt LSU has the stomach to pay his buyout right now so we are gonna endure more for better or worse.
With that said do you think he’s the first coach in history to have a guy get hurt? It’s year 1 or even year 2.
He’s got a worse SEC winning percentage than CURLEY HALLMAN who is regarded as the worst lsu men’s coach in modern history. I’m sure Curley was “in a lot of games too”.
It’s WAY below jones and Trent Johnson.
I hope Thomas shows up and we win out and you can make me eat crow.
I want the basketball team to be good.

I think CMM has had some bad luck, and made some mistakes, but I see signs of improvement. I think he is a good coach with potential to be very good. I’m glad Verge is taking a wait and see approach. If he continues to improve throughout the year, then I think we would be foolish to fire him. One big thing I will look for is improvement on breaking pressures. Thomas will help, but that should be a team effort. He has apparently not worked on that, or if he has, the players aren’t translating the practice to the game. CMM needs to get that figured out. If CMM continues to learn from his mistakes, he will either have success here or elsewhere very soon.

Good grief.
Have you and I watched the same product the last four years?
Good coaches don’t go 15-44. Simple as that. If it’s a matter (myth) of no money, then he needs to fundraise better for his own program. Another failure of his.

What do you consider improvement? It’s year 4 and we’re talking about how to break a press? The part of our fan base that believes CMM should stick around is mind boggling. You have other programs that have turned things around in one year. Why are we contemplating giving him another year?
If he goes on some magical run and makes the tournament, maybe you consider keeping him. Anything shy of the tournament and he’s canned.

They just see the box score of yesterday’s game and are fooled into thinking McMahon has it turned around.
Louisiana is scared of change more than anywhere else in the country so it checks out.

When you are looking to pay an offensive lineman more for next season than your MBB coach, it is obvious to everyone that your school does not care about that sport.
Just own it that MBB is cooked at LSU. Do the bare minimum and invest into those sports that matter.

Where does LSU basketball rank in NIL compared to other SEC schools?
