Patrick Wright and Netherton are both good voices.
I like Hannagriff in the booth too but maybe as a complement to the new guy.
What do I know though.

It is amazing how much opinions differ on this subject. Some people love one guys voice and hate another; other posters feel the opposite. I can't wait till the day the new voice is announced. No matter who it is, there will be TONS of bitching as the "nega-newVoice-ers" will try to make sure their opinion is heard.
ETA: I think the meltdown would be the worst if Netherton is hired, followed closely by Rollins. There would be a fairly major meltdown if Hanagriff is hired, and maybe just a medium sized melt if Wright is hired, but a meltdown nonetheless.

This is probably a good call of Nethertons. And it sucks.

God that was worse than terrible.

Hanagriff,
I like Charlie, but his voice for a extended period of time puts me to sleep and he can on occasion go off the deep end. As much as knowing the games is important, the voice for radio is as if not more important. imo
The other guys...12 of one and a dozen of the other.

This is just an awful opinion. Netherton and Rollins are so so much worse than hanagriff.
Have you ever heard Hanagriff do PBP in a fast paced sport like football or basketball?
I kind of agree with his opinion. I don't think he's a PBP guy at all. I think he's barely adequate for the 1/3rd of the game he does it in baseball.
And, I like Hannagriff. But, there is a big difference between a PBP guy and a sports talk radio guy.

Yes. Hanagriff might not be the best for the job but if the other two get chosen i may never listen to an lsu game again. If it's not on tv then i'd be out (which luckily is rare now with the secn). That's how awful it would be to have Netherton or Rollins as the voice of the tigers.
I'm really banking on one of these national guys being a good fit otherwise we are just going to be in the exact same boat as we were with hawthorne, only there will be no end in sight.

Word on the street is that the guy is a pompous arse. I don't think he is the homerun hire that everyone thinks he is. I listened to some of the NBA audio clips from above. Sounds like he overdoes it a bit. I am not saying he is bad but to say he is "by far the best candidate" is overstating it.
You're certainly in the minority on this. I don't see the need to get personal, either, but that's cool. The man is one of the kindest human beings you'll ever meet. Some people just can't distinguish the line between cocky and confident. He may be confident, but he should be because he's damn good.

Patrick Wright for baseball and basketball, a national guy for football, then reevaluate in a few years and see if Wright deserves that as well
then hold student tryouts to call the women's sports that Wright does now

Rollins--Play by play
Hanagriff--Color commentator
Both are great but Rollins is likely to be better calling a game and Hanagriff offers great commentary.

Call me crazy, but I like the charm of Rollins' old school cliches.

Personal Preference out of the locals:
- Patrick Wright has the best mix of the three. He gets the all-around nod.
-Hanagriff has the worst voice and the best knowledge and timing.
-Lynn Rollins is so ridiculously folksy and homey that I feel like he wishes he were related to Garrison Keeler and wants each broadcast to be the sporting equivalent of Prairie Home Companion. Otherwise he's okay.
The issue with them is as follows:
-Patrick Wright is Olympic Sports and always will be. Sad but true.
-Hanagriff's voice (monotone and lack of emotion) will limit him.
-Rollins' age is a factor. If they hire him, within a decade they'll have to hire again.
LSU hires guys once every few decades. This is going to be something that's a lifetime gig. Like an appointment to the US Supreme Court.
The locals were leaked because its gonna be a national guy. That's my take anyway.

Rollins needs to cut out the corny lines. He's good for the most part, but I don't need to hear, "he's more nervous than a cat in a room full of rocking chairs".
that works on TV. the pictures describe things so he doesn't always have to. radio might move a bit fast for Lyn however, plus he might have to have different broadcast partners

Rollins voice is also a factor. It's very bad.

because you "heard" he was a "pompous arse"?
for fricks sake, he's calling a sporting event, and he is damn good at it. I dont really care if he is pompous or not. He doesn't come off that way on air. That is all that matters.

shite, he is probably over qualified, if anything.

Sean Kelly is the ONLY local guy that should even be considered. Those others are total jokes.
Kelly or a national guy and I'm getting close to all-in with Kelly

I almost wish the process could start all over again-- seems like none of the LA candidates would be overwhelmingly popular, but we know the LSU fanbase is tough to please.
Agreed, a lot of this is subjective. At first, I was glad to hear Hawthorne is retiring, but now I am not so sure his successor will be that much better.
Does anyone know the names of the national candidates under consideration?
