re: If Alleva is really considering giving O an extension we need to riot

What could possibly be the reasoning for an extension?

Try rioting at the SEC offices.

true and why he has any buyout at all is mystifing. As Im sure O would walk if he got lowballed and coach at one of the plethora of major colleges that would offer him if he was available.

You know the Alleva negotiation tactics: bid against yourself and give the most years. I'd be shocked if the buyout is less than 10 million because he's that stupid
Yeah, this is the part that has me worried.

It's all about the buyout.....extensions mean absolutely nothing in this day and age....he needs a long enough contract to recruit effectively....as long as the buyout is reasonable, it won't matter

Recruiting and continuity are the only reasons. Happens all the time. The problem is that Alleva is the one handling it.

How about stop going to/watching games?
If they extend him, thats what should happen.

You will get yelled at for saying this, but it is absolutely 100% true. Contracts and extensions are meaningless outside of the buyouts.

Dude, chill out. In 2 full seasons, he's 9-4 and 9-3, can get to 10-3, and you want to fire him already? Are you insane?
Then why did we fire Les?
Posted on 11/25/18 at 1:35 pm to geauxtigers87
That would be good for recruiting

They have to give him one for recruiting. If not, it will be open season on him for negative recruiting and that crap scares away recruits more than anything. The key is to not increase his buyout at all so it can be gotten out of, if necessary.
No you don’t. He still has two years on the current contract.

You know that Les had fallen off. He had also lied about fixing the offense. You know it to be true but you want to be disingenuous and act like you don't. It's not a good look.

I don’t think there is anyone more passionate than O about his team. Is he a top 5 or even top 10 coach in the country, I don’t know but I personally don’t think so. I don’t think a contract extension at this point is warranted though. Let him have another year without a contract extension and see what he does. Unfortunately you have to give a guy his 3 years and see what happens. We will keep our coaching staff intact this offseason and see what happens. If we are going in the right direction extend him, if not let him go.

That was never the direction of this thread. It was about extension. But way to put words in people’s mouths and hijack it.

Damn that sounds familiar.

What would be good for recruiting would be to fire him and hire a good coach.

e buyout is of more interest than the extension itself
Exactly. People don't understand the "Extension" is really just for appearance. To show continuity it doesn't cost us more money and it won't give him a longer rope
Posted on 11/25/18 at 1:46 pm to geauxtigers87
There's no reason we can't recruit solid kids who think they're going to be NFL caliber players when O still has three years on his contract
It would be worse optics for LSU to only extend him a year and not give him any buyout, which would be the only way to make any kind of extension sane

Yup. And we fired him.
Want to start laying out all of O’s lies?
“No rebuild” Then he flips and tells us our lines need rebuilding.
“I’ll hire the best co-ordinators and let them coach”
Then he won’t let the first do that, fires him and promotes a failed OC from our own staff.
“We’ll upgrade the offense”
Nope. Same stale offense as Miles had. Even worse.
“We’ll compete for titles now”
You can see how that has gone.
Face it. O is Les Miles 2.0.

Agree. By that logic we should have extended Curley every year.
