Injuries on front seven are too much to overcome. That's really it.

My thought was how elite can a defense be when we have a 3 and out offense? Over the course of a season those extra 12-15 defensive snaps a game ad up.
JPM, agree. My exact point of the post

Gooden is really good....

I know everyone here jerks him off, but he can't stop a running QB for shite. I just dont get the hype.

Sure seemed Blake rolled his eyes toward BK often on the sidelines.

Whit Weeks was a huge loss

The scores in all the losses at 1/2 were close…but at some point when the offense is losing TOP and running 20 less plays than the opponent it is difficult to keep up.
I’m certainly not saying the D is not without its issues—one would think they would have been better prepared to handle running QBs….we were fortunate against SC.

Bring Kiffin and Golding
Kiifin, yes.
Leave Golding's fat, drunken arse in Oxford. His defenses have been consistently bailed out by Kiffin's prolific offenses.

It would have been nice to have Atkins still on the roster when Whit got hurt.

but the defense really shite the bed in the Vandy and ole miss loss.
Tell me what if anything the offense has done in that time period? The defense cant play the whole game by themselves…
Ole Miss, their 3rd possession was a 17 play drive. What the offense did to that point is irrelevant... defense should still be fresh in the 1st quarter. They just got worked.
Vandy, the offense was actually halfway decent. It didn't matter because the defense couldn't stop Pavia at all, they went up and down the field at will. A couple non-TDs and the game was over, because the defense never held. They didn't punt until very late.

*The Ole Miss game wasnt on him. Sloan lost that one.
*Vandy game was a mixed bag. Enough blame to go on both sides of the ball.
*Baker staright up shite the bed against Texas A&M.
It seems like he sent an enormous amount of pressure (almost every down) during the first 4 weeks of the season.. and completely stopped after the Southeastern game.

Let’s be honest here about Perkins. I feel so bad for what happened to his mom and praying for him and his family, but his play on the field for most of the year would’ve done had him on the bench at a place like Alabama.

Perk is invisible and no effort

Perk quit playing again and Whit is out

The team as a whole is NOT as strong & resilient under this S&C coach/program
I think that much should be obvious. It's been the most glaring issue for three years. We have transfers come in and they're the strongest guys on the team, consistently. The teams under Kelly were too weak, too soft.

I would bring Golding in and keep Baker. Co-DCs. Facing a running QB? Let Golding cook, pocket passer? Let Baker cook.

Perkins obviously quitting on plays.

The difference is Whit.
Not trying to be an a-hole but Whit being out is not the difference in us giving up 10 points vs 49 points. Whit was there for the Ole Miss game when the team struggled to get stops.
Whit was there last year when Bama ran all over us in a 42-13 route. Whit was on the field last year when we couldn't stop the Aggies in the second half for 31 second half points.
Whit being out has hurt the team for sure but its not the difference people think it is. Whit being out has nothing to do with Perk constantly doing the wrong thing. Whit being out has nothing to do with our constant inability to stay in our pass rush lanes, or having a linebacker cover the opposing teams best player 1-on-1. The defense has had issues all year but the other offenses didn't take advantage of it due to their own failures. Chambliss, Pavia, and Reed took advantage of it. When a player is constantly doing what he is not supposed to it is on the Coach to either fix it or take the player out. Leaving Perk in has hurt the team more than helped it. Playing the base defense has really hurt them.
I will be curious to see what Blake has in the works this week. Maybe perk finds new motivation to play hard and do his job. Or maybe he is not playing the amount he was before and we have better effort and technique across the board.
