That doesn’t make sense. The boosters will keep a 16-60 coach because they don’t want Wade?

You think the boosters would rather pay 7.5 mill for a sport not one cares about or pay that to CLK over 3 years to go towards a QB or WR or LT or Edge rusher?
Absolutely yes, it's chump change to them now. $2.5M/yr over 3 years is nothing when the 2nd revenue producing program is completely irrelevant right now and having 1k fans show up to the games.
There's tons of money to be had in basketball we arent getting right now. If you think the basketball program makes the same money whether we have nobody show up and never make the tournament as 10k fans showing up and getting into the tournament you are severely out of touch
And I definitely know some boosters were HUGE Wade fans and part of the reason theres a push to get him back here. They were not happy when he got canned and McMahon was hired, program was never going to get the support it needs at that point because it was a knee jerk move and hired a boring coach who was never going to make it here regardless of support long term and the boosters knew it.

LSU needs to go in one of two directions in MBB. 1) fire a pitiful excuse of a baskeball coach in McMahon who if given 20 more years STILL won't make the NCAA tourney 2) if SEC will allow it, just nix the MBB program. If LSU isn't TRYING to win men's basketball games, why even bother to play them. With this incompetent buffoon of a coach, LSU isn't only losing games, but most of the time they aren't even competitive in them.
Pay the ransom/buyout and end the hostage taking of LSU fans having to endure HS caliber play by the team.

Even though Shaq has said that he won’t give any money for NIL, I bet he would be (if asked) willing to fund the buyout. I’m sure that might come with some caveats and promises from both sides.
He is tired and embarrassed by the state of the program and he loves LSU more than most fans. He’s the top promoter and ambassador, supporting LSU in every way possible. Yes, he does give money behind the scenes.

what are the chances that he sees the direction of the program and the obvious writing on the wall and just leaves on his own and goes and finds a job at a mid major in the offseason? Sure it would be taking a pay cut yada yada but he is still young and needs to reboot his career.

Woodward promised him a ton of money, he/his agent are never leaving that on the table

He should do that and it would offset his buyout some but thanks to fat Scott MM doesn’t need to work again

Very few people care about men’s BB. The program has already died.

He’s not getting another year. He’s had four. Injuries have been a killer, but it’s a bottom line business and he hasn't gotten it done. We HAVE to move on.

No mid-major (at least any mid-major who would hire him with such a dismal record at LSU) would pay him anywhere close to the ~$2M LSU would have to pay him annually for the next 3 seasons. Plus, I doubt there is much of a market for him, even at the mid-major level.
He got the Murray St job as an on-staff promotion. It was his first HC job. The marketplace is going to look at his awful performance at LSU and the fact the basketball landscape has changed since he was last a mid-major HC and pass on him.

They both average 23 minutes a game.

The NCAA should just nix men’s BB altogether.

Not idiocy. If you really think the men's BB program isn't a total joke at LSU, YOU are a MORON!
you dimwitted prick! BTW, there are examples of programs in Power 4 conferences that don't compete in "major sports". SMU, Colorado, Iowa State, and Wisconsin for example have NOT had baseball teams. Get educated!
I repeat! IF LSU doesn't care enough to TRY to win at men's BB to actually hire a competent head coach, then just nix the program.

Dude, it's not that much money
Why are people parroting this? He's gone at the end of the season, it's over. We (rich people) can easily cut that check.
